Gillies, and entire Islanders roster were truly great during that Stanley Cup run.
That run occurred while living off-campus with a bunch of guys from LI and NYC and they got me hooked on the Islanders. Knuckles Nystrom, Butch Goring wearing same helmet since age 12, Trottier, Bossy, Potvin -that team was loaded!

Seth Morrow followed the thrilling 1980 Olympic Gold Medal with 4 Stanley Cups.
What a way to start a career!

Didn't follow hockey before then or much since, but your post brought back fun memories.
