I genuinely like what Gmac had done, however I think they are a starting PG and Center from being a tournament team. Backup 4 too.
FIFY impact guard and center. It's not going to be easy for whoever is competing against Dual to win the job over him.I genuinely like what Gmac had done, however I think they are a starting PG and Center from being a tournament team. Backup 4 too.
Exactly. The transfer portal agents hate this pesky thing called defense.FIFY impact guard and center. It's not going to be easy for whoever is competing against Dual to win the job over him.
Yes! We must panic today for clearly there are no more opportunities to sign meaningful players! How are we going to field a team next year with only 7 players?
I feel like we need more players on our basketball team in order to compete with Boston College and Pitt.
Well we have 9 already so, there’s that. How are we going to field a team next year with only 7 players?

i get what youre saying theres definitely still some holes on the roster - big men, especiallyAm I one of the that is genuinely concerned that this roster kind of stinks and lacks any real high end impact we were expecting? It currently lacks so much that I can't see how we will compete for anything other than maybe a .500 record. Yes, there's still time to add, and we may get some overseas stud, but to this point, with the money that has supposedly been available to Gmac, I am completely underwhelmed. Hopefully there are still big time players coming, but that's really only a hope at this point.
A high caliber PG and C are not on the roster. Dual seems like a quality backup at multiple spots, but lacks the offensive ceiling to be more than a complementary piece. I won't include Moesch as an option, as it's unfair to expect much out of a freshman these days, and hopefully the staff isn't setting unrealistic expectations. A starter still seems like a major need.
At Center we have a decent Siena big who's probably more of a PF and a skinny kid from overseas that does have good upside, but who knows how much he can contribute immediately. Without more beef or offensive additions, how exactly will we hold up in the paint? We're going to get physically killed by some teams. Sadiq as the only other current 'big guy' is really unfortunate. We need at least 2 bigger bodies still (C and ), both of who can play big minutes. Watching the tourney, the successful teams had multiple bigs, guys that can bang and battle inside. I don't see anything close to that on our roster yet.
We have a lot of wings, but questionable shooting, at best. I'm guessing between Doty, Kiyan, MMM, Tobiason and maybe even a little Sadiq, we can successfully cover the 2/3, though shooting is the MAJOR concern, along with defense. I also don't believe we have enough athleticism on the perimeter but that is TBD.
While we all hope and expect GMac to be a significant x's and o's upgrade, having these kind of deficiencies sure seems like an issue...
And when we sign those guys we will be happy.Yes! We must panic today for clearly there are no more opportunities to sign meaningful players!
Syracuse had barely a 500 record with a "talented" P5 team last year and the same record basically (1 less win) the year before with an "untalented" midmajor team too (a nonfactor PG and Center that didn't play defense).Am I one of the that is genuinely concerned that this roster kind of stinks and lacks any real high end impact we were expecting? So, we cant compete for National Titles again unless congress intervenes...tough to recruit good players with that messageSyracuse had barely a 500 record with a "talented" P5 team last year and the same record basically (1 less win) the year before with an "untalented" midmajor team too (a nonfactor PG and Center that didn't play defense).
I don't think people are watching beyond the headlines and that's ok. We are not going to be playing for a Final 4 or maybe not even a Sweet 16 for another few years. We are in rebuild after 5 years of garbage.
Tournament =Yes must have.
There are about 15-20 programs that are just buying their way into Sweet 16's each year. That leaves like 60 P5 hoops programs chasing bids and we need to be better than about half of them. That does not take some crazy amount of talent or even coaching.
With tourney expansion the ACC will be a 9 bid league so we need to be better than 9-10 ACC teams.
If we even fill out our roster reasonably with bigs we should beat GT, ND, WF, FSU, Cal, Stanford, VTech, Pitt, and BC. Then you hope to beat SMU, or Ncstates or Clemson's as well or steal one from the top of the league. The teams I'm listing are not bringing in better talent than us and many have new coaches or coaches on the hot seat as well.
TLDR start watching what the ACC top to bottom is doing in the portal and you'll feel alot better. and stop worrying about headlines of Uconn, Florida, Kentucky, and Michigan building Natty rosters.
I think they’re a bunch of solid players added but I don’t think any are true needle movers. We need more than a group of role players and complementary pieces.i get what youre saying theres definitely still some holes on the roster - big men, especially
but i think the players who have never played for the cuse before are better than you think...the international guys are just going to be huge question marks, regardless...but im not nearly as concerned as you are
overall, i think having an actual competent coach will do so much more than most seem to think...i think the problem mostly during reds years (except for year 2) was bad coaching, not bad talent
i wouldnt say tobiason and 3m are role or complimentary players.I think they’re a bunch of solid players added but I don’t think any are true needle movers. We need more than a group of role players and complementary pieces.
I just don’t think we have enough physically or on the interior to compete at a high level. The App St kid would be a big boost but I’d still believe we’re a bit light on defense and rebounding.
The shooting is a major concern that we have to see succeed to believe it’s good enough IMO
Win more and get more people excited to donate and players to buy in.So, we cant compete for National Titles again unless congress intervenes...tough to recruit good players with that message
Genuinely curious: what makes you so confident that MMM’s skills will translate to the ACC? Are you basing solely on Givony? Are you familiar with the level of competition he’s playing against? You just seem extremely confident.i wouldnt say tobiason and 3m are role or complimentary players.
It seems like with him and the other centers we have we would be set.So is Luke Wilson good enough as a center get if we lock him down?
idk i like the way teams in the nba for example like ny knicks and the miami heat a couple recent seasons went very far and didnt have any "superstars" just a solid group of "role players"I think they’re a bunch of solid players added but I don’t think any are true needle movers. We need more than a group of role players and complementary pieces.

i'm basing it on not just giovany calling him a mcdonalds AA type player, or finkelstein calling him a top 50 player or one other analyst, whose name i forget, calling him a huge get that other name schools wanted. but also, my superior evaluation skills.Genuinely curious: what makes you so confident that MMM’s skills will translate to the ACC? and yes i know the competition level very well as its been discussed here a lot. some age appropriate and some against guys 5 years his senior. What we are doing isn’t a different than what most power 5 schools do. Iowa State and Houston are building their teams through low and mid majors and they’ve consistently been two of the best teams in the best league in the country.Syracuse had barely a 500 record with a "talented" P5 team last year and the same record basically (1 less win) the year before with an "untalented" midmajor team too (a nonfactor PG and Center that didn't play defense).
