Ruffin McNeill Fired

I think it's crazy they fired him. I did notice that Xtreme must have some kind of real time feed in his tacked post. That was up there immediately. So much so, that I didn't start a thread, thought I might get man on the mooned.

Ruffin should land somewhere quickly.

Cue the purple dinosaur again if Babers falls through. But I won't care. I'm 7 stories up and if we don't get Babers, I'm going for a dive.

he's a good coach. I wonder if Bowling Green will consider him. ya know, if their coach happens to leave..

Crazy they fired him. ECU must have some really unrealistic expectations if after 8,10, and 8 win seasons the guy has one year of 5-7 and they make a move like this.

Could be wrong but Lincoln Riley may be the reason for the 8, 10, and 8 win seasons. Ruffin is a defensive guy. Riley was OC and AHC when ECU had the 5th most productive offense in the country. Riley left for Oklahoma and the offense fell to #56.

I have heard that it might have had to do with firing assistants and McNeill standing by them.

Losing record setting QB and WR will do that. Also, losing the replacement QB to a knee injury just before the season doesn't help. A lot of those losses were to really good teams (S. Fla, Florida, Navy, Cincy, Temple). Maybe it was losing to UCONN that broke the camel's back...

Still, so one year of 5-7 and you fire the guy? Totally crazy

He's doing well. He led us to the playoffs in our second season of varsity. He had a 1000 yards receiving and played a good amount of DB for us. He has a handful of offers from smaller schools but we hope a more major school will come through. Most of the bigger programs are interested in him as a DB.

Thank you. Good to hear.

Totally agree. He's an ECU alum also.

The same thing happened with David Cutcliffe right after he was SEC coach of the year at Ole Miss. They had a losing season the next year and asked him to fire assistants. He refused - they then fired him and his entire staff - the story I've heard. An incredibly bad decision, amplified by what he has done later when hired by Duke - he has made Duke a player! They came within an eyelash of beating the best team Texas A & M ever had in a bowl game.
