Rutgers matchup questions/thoughts/guesses

No one on this board hates Rutgirls as much as me, but I felt bad for them too, they had some good wins they deserved to finally see their name on Selection Sunday.

I can separate my feelings for their football program with their basketball. I actually liked their Gary Waters teams. They played a fun brand of basketball and had the RAC being a tough place to play. They set their program back 13 years by firing him. Worse than us firing P.

Waters was the best coach they had, don't think the Coach P analogy is right, Coach P did a lot more.

My thoughts are why did they take a plane to NJ.

Hope the university isn’t planning on cutting any sports while spending money like that

I predict you will have had enough of the Cowboys game by 9:30.
I actually think they will play well. Not that it matters. I'll prob just watch the first half.

The line is RU -3.5 which is pretty much a pickem. Not sure your point about covering.
with the home court pretty much gone now , it might have been more like 4-5 in a real yr.

but you can get +150 or more on the ML..

It was always going to be 3-4 based on KenPom which is very in line with Vegas.

We dived into Rutgers as a team and talked about where the game will be decided tonight. Hope you guys can check it out!

Some good analysis earlier in the thread. Here are some thoughts on the Rutgers team

-Jacob Young. One of the quickest players you will face this season. Lightning quick non stop energy. Will get out and push and attack the basket. Devastating Euro step and crafty finisher. Defensive on ball menace. Streaky shooter. Not his strength

-Montez Mathis. Physical tough wing defender. Excels attacking the basket. Improved 3 but not a great shooter

Ron Harper Jr. Rutgers best player. Can do it all. One of our best 3 point shooters but finishes strong around the rim and can score at all 3 levels. Excellent and underrated versatile defender

Paul Mulcahy. 6'7 point guard who has elite elite level passing and vision. He can be a terror at the foul line to shred the zone. Unselfish to a point that can become detrimental. Good rebounder. Poor lateral quickness

Cliff Omoruyi. Rutgers biggest recruit in years. Elite athlete at the 5. Dunk machine. Rebound machine. Raw. Throw it up and he will dunk on anyone

Myles Johnson. More skilled less explosive 5. Shot blocker rebounder good passer. Soft touch around the basket with some post moves. Horrible FT shooter and tendency to pick up bad fouls 30ft from basket

Freshman role players. Mag, Palmquist, Reiber. Mag is 6'7 long bouncy and looks like a great find. Dirty work defensive menace type for now. Palmquist is a 6'7 lefty sweedish player who has not done much but could be someone who sees more minutes against the Syracuse zone. Reiber is a skilled big not too explosive but good passing dribbling shooting skills. Can be stretch 4 or smaller 5

The rest of the roster is Geo Baker who is our leader and big shot maker. He is out. Caleb McConnell is a smooth good shooter 6'7 back injury redshirt.

Sounds like we are in for one hell of a game. Thank you for the info.

Hoping for a good game and both teams bring it for some quality bball. Both teams first real P5 test.

A lot of concern from Rutgers board about facing the zone since we are a poor outside shooting team and we won't have our senior leader Geo Baker. Syracuse is missing 2 starters and on the road so that seems like a bigger hurdle to me as Rutgers did pretty well last season when Baker missed some time.

If we have a rare good 3 point shooting night then we are really tough to beat, but I think this game will be decided by how well RU can attack the interior of the zone. This will largely fall to how well Mulcahy plays at the FT line of the zone. 6'7 pass first PG with excellent vision. He really doesn't look for his own offense a lot so it will be interesting to see how aggressive he is from that spot and how Syracuse chooses to defend it. He will ideally look to dump it down to Cliff Myles or Harper from there for some dunks and lobs but can get caught overpassing when he needs to look to score

Another major key will be rebounding. Rutgers excels when we relentlessly attack the rim and offensive glass.

Transition D. Rutgers looks to get out and run. RU half court offense can struggle at times. When Young gets going in transition he is almost impossible to stop and he brings the energy the entire team feeds off of... if you can limit Young in transition it will put more pressure on RU to execute in the half court
