Sabonis

the running of the Joke

This is tremendous work.

I agree this has to be the plan. I'm concerned on defense we will be so focused on Sabonis they will get the ball to their guards on the elbow for 3's that we can't get back on. If they hit a few it could open of pandoras box.

It's usually one or the other. I bet JB packs in the zone to start and then tries to shut down the guards the second half.

Not sure what you're referring to, but must have been while at Portland or the Olympics maybe? Anyway you have your reasons.

But for the young ones a bit of history. His father (Arvydas) was a legend in Europe in the 80's. By the time he got outside the Iron Curtain his knees were shot, and he still managed to have a very good NBA career (pizzing people off is a good indicator ;) He'd have been a perennial All-Star, if not a Hall of Famer. As I recall Bill Walton called him a 7'3" Larry Bird at the time.

So the kid has good genes and it shows. Going to be tough to deal with for our bigs.

His dad was a tremendous passer out of the post, and loved that behind the back bounce pass to cutting guards. He was a great player in his prime. He was one of the leaders of their 1972 team that "won" the Olympics, right?

You too are thinking of Belov

I was thinking the exact opposite. I think Lydon will get the vast majority of the C minutes in an attempt to stretch the defense so we can exploit Wiltjer more and hopefully draw some fouls on Sabonis by keeping him moving.

I agree thats the plan; a lot of Roberson/Lydon to make their bigs move. If Sabonis crushes us down low they may need the bulk (and fouls) that DC can provide though

For this to work we need Roberson to be a mad man on the glass. If he doesn't they are going to get a lot of 2nd chance opportunities. I think he will be the key to the entire game.

Sabonis is like a John Pinone with better hand skills. Similar footwork, Sabonis a little smoother. Actually Pinone was more agressive than Domantas to date. Also a couple of inches shorter. Roberson and Lydon should get a few blocks if they don't fall for the up and under moves.
