Schools opting out of bowl participation (22)

if Clemson beats Notre Dame
Rose Bowl- Clemson
Sugar Bowl- Notre Dame

ACC has bowl agreements with
Orange Bowl- North Carolina
Cheese-It Bowl- Miami
Duke’s Mayo Bowl- NC State
Gator Bowl- Wake
Military Bowl- Louisville
Gasparlia Bowl- Duke

If one more ACC opts out Syracuse could be invited.

As Boston college, Pitt, Virginia, Virginia Tech Georgia Tech, Florida State are out.

I bet we would decline.

At this point, with the team most likely off and not practicing for a couple of weeks it would be really hard for me to imagine that we'd jump in...

Rare moment where I like Brian Kelly.
We all know the Rose Bowl is either going to cave or it will be moved to JerryWorld and more than just family and friends will attend.

Bluffing, the other contending teams said they won’t play if coaches that killed kids are allowed on field.
That my line. I’ll add a fluck Brian kelly. Should be getting chow in a prison mess hall instead of coaching

Is it the Rose Bowl that needs to cave or the state of California?

L A County is one of worst spots in country, not a good move by Kelly

Both. Rose Bowl isn’t using any of its power to try and get the 85 players on each side and coaches families allowed in the stadium.

Under 500 would be in the stands of a 80k seat stadium.
GMAB if the Rose Bowl and California won’t come together and allow that.

Just move the “Rose” Bowl to Dallas, Nashville or Indianapolis this year.

If the game is between Notre Dame and Ohio State play in it Indianapolis.
If it’s Clemson and Ohio State play it in Nashville.

There is no reason for the Rose Bowl to be played in California if they won’t allow the families of the players into the stadium. How is it safe for the players to play but not safe for family members to be allowed in.

It’s so dumb.

I haven’t seen this published anywhere but I know for a fact schools routinely lost money playing in most of the bowl games. It costs a lot to transport a team, the coaches and supporting staff, administrators, cheerleaders, band members, etc. Then you have to feed them, house them and fly them back.

The bowl games that are trying to play are surely going to offer less money to play in their games.
So for the schools slated to play low level bowl games, passing on the game is going to save them a lot of money. A school like Georgia Tech might not opt out because they can probably drive to their bowl game and minimize their expenses. Note which ACC schools opted out first; BC, Pitt, UVa and VT. No coincidence they are the ones furthest from most of the bowl games.

Does a bowl game really have that kind of power when the pro teams in the sa,e state don't?

I think it makes sense to just play it at a venue close to the teams in the game.

far be it from me to defend the idiot but he wants the game moved to a city where families would be able to attend, he doesn’t think they should fight LA County health officials.

Honestly , I think family should be able to attend if they want to get on aircraft and other Covid risks , so be it. I don’t think Kelly or any other coach should be trying to extort decisions about attendance.

teams lost money in bowls because they had to eat tickets they often dont sell.. they wont be happening at that level for any game that goes on. also because of no events no reason to go and travel to a bowl a week out like normal. just go a fay or so out, get tested and come home.. no trying to sell 15K of tickets
