Schwartz looked bad on ac360

I agree, the report didn't impress me and I thought they didn't research nor know the facts for a nationally televised segment. I wonder if Laurie Fine thankfully backing out of the interview left them unprepared (they should have been prepared with facts for the interview one would think though) to discuss the issue.

The one lawyer guy kept referring to the possibility of Fine losing his job. And later, probably after a glance at the teleprompter, said "and of course we all know he lost his job".

By and large, I thought it was a decent report.

I'm still baffled this is getting more press than the PSU scandal.

It's like WWII and the Gulf War happening one week after the other, and all we're hearing about is the Gulf War.

Sonny Hustin pressed it further as well, in the round table with Cooper. Hopefully that side of the story has some legs.

Wow, this particular reply to this thread is already in the top 3 results for a Google search on Sonny Hustin. < 45 minutes after I made it.

Thought it took much more time for Google to process this info. Guess it doesn't.

Interesting, it seems to be because I misspelled her name. I thought I got it right off of CNN's screen...

I also liked how they talked about jb driving off quickly when we could all see him driving slow. Its like that correspondent thought he was on the radio.

Did anyone notice how Schwarz nervously twisted the Lang part of the story?

Cooper: "So did Lang tell you something different when you interviewed him in 2003?"

Schwarz: "Uh...well, yeah - when I questioned Lang in 2003, I asked him if he was abused by Fine. He told me Fine touched his leg. I asked him if he touched him inappropriately, and he told me 'I don't remember...I don't want to talk anymore!"

So at first Lang just lied to everyone back in 2003 and said Fine never molested him. Now, Schwarz is saying that Lang just didn't want to talk about it?

Seriously, at this point does Schwarz really need to twist things to make it seem like Davis and Lang are both telling the truth? You would think Schwarz could just be secure enough in the story and his reporting to just tell it like it is without feeling the need make stuff up.

Makes me continue to want to question the entire story.

You and me both. About the only things I'm certain of at this point is that Bernie was a closet homosexual who led a double life, and that his wife is a degenerate loon.

There's lots of circumstantial evidence pointing to some other conclusions, but also some contradictory evidence. I'm very happy that the University fired Bernie to distance themselves from him. I'm sure that additional details are going to come out that make Bernie [and his wife] look even worse, but I'm guessing that the lion's share of damage will reflect way more upon them as opposed to the University.

I agree.

People keep talking about the tip of the iceberg. I think, as it relates to the direct involvement with SU, we're seeing most of the iceberg.

What I fully expect to come forth is more about Laurie and Bernie's deviance. Maybe one more abused kid will come forth. (not judging any posters here), but Laurie and Bernie were probably swingers at one point. Into "open relationships". This allowed Bernie to explore his closeted side. Always being second fiddle to Boeheim, he probably had some control issues as well. Maybe this led to the need to abuse and control young boys. Who knows?

It's odd she would answer the door today. With a bit of a smile, per the CNN reporter. I would guess she is, at some level, loving the attention, and will want to go down with all guns ablazing.

I don't agree with this. PSU got way more press than SU is getting now—at least it seems that way from my vantage point.

So on Sunday mornings when BF and JB go out to their driveways to get the paper, will they wave at each other?

Will there be a law passed outlawing jammie bottoms after noon?

Are Snookie and DeJuan Coleman related?

I think it would be a rather awkward situation where Fine sheepishly waves...while Boeheim responds with a wave of his own.

Not that I am happy this is on CNN, but its nice to see some legitimate journalism. Some conclusions:

1) Schwarz looked very nervous and looked to be twisting words and doubt when a) asked about the 4 month SU investigation and having some "source" yada yada and b) when asked about Davis changing his story...would like the PS and SU to corroborate the Lang story that he tried to cast doubt with

2) Interesting point from Geragos (sp) that they will easily be able to tell if the audio is doctored and he correctly pointed out that the voice had been identified but there was no check on if there was editing...backhanded joke about how could ESPN need to corroborate JF's voice

3) Third accuser is not being taken as legitimate, even Schwarz didn't embrace that part of the story, CNN cut it short when discussing him. Easy enough, he says he sat behind the SU bench at the Syr-Pitt game in Fitzgerald...game must have been on TV and there must be video...somebody must be able to ID whether he was there or not...lots of camera shots of behind the bench throughout the game. If he's there keep investigating...not, well...

Good point RF. In a weird way, the more bizarre and sordid the details about the Fines, the less the media will likely focus on JB/SU, in the short-term anyway. The converse of that is, the more that the details show just how deviant that Bernie and his wife are/were, the more likely it is that reasonable people will at least wonder "how is it that nobody knew about any of this?" Mike Waters observation about JB being pretty much a recluse on team trips is an important point.

You're the #1 result now, baby.

Of course, it's all downhill from here.

it probably isn't that high for everyone else. it's just reading your mind

Cooper really didn't press Schwartz enough about why why he didn't turn the tape over to the police. While the question was asked, Schwartz really never answered it. He just rambled on about why they chose not to run the story the first time around.

Is it just me or does Schwartz begin every answer with "Well,....." Somebody should make a drinking game for this guy.

Why did ESPN remove the bio Mark Schwarz from ESPN.com and remove him from the ESPN personalities wiki page?

ESPN isn't as much the story, its a small tangent part of the story.

The main story is still a grown man in a position of power touching young kids. That will always be the center of the story
How can sitting on this while kids are being abused be only minor side story. It is part and parcel of the whole story.
