Scott Shafer

60 in college football coaching years has to be 90. He made a lot of money in his career. Assumingely, he will have a nice, relaxing retirement.

As far as being bitter at being let go it was clear as day he was not cut out to be a HC and was only going to get worse.

I’ll never forget the all out blitzes on in end of game hail mary situation against Minnesota in the Texas bowl. Talk about all or nothing.

Terrible HC, but great defense. Really fun to watch. And I’d assume players love to play it.

But this guy? No.

Dude lucked into a HC job with Marrone and Hackett leaving and then got super bitter with the only school that ever offered him a HC job. Was weird…

The whole “getting the band back together” and getting mad a Dabo for kicking a field goal at the end of the first half lol and ISIS and the cigar. No thank you
I thought he got mad at Dabo for going for a TD when they aready had a big lead at the the end of the first half. Wasn't the, "eph you, Dabo," after we stopped them?

That is too bad. He was one heck of a D.C. Converted Hogue and Smith (I think) from RB to LB. They both were very very solid. I would have no problem with him unretiring to be on the defensive staff in any capacity. He was not cut out for head coach though.
If he had made tim Lester his oc I think his story would have been different.

He was a simpleton and cratered our program. AND he turned out to be a vindictive baby. Good riddance.
Daryl gross and Greg Robinson cratered our program bud. Doug Marrone had gotten the recipe right and then bailed. We had all the momentum and a solid coaching staff. Gus edwards was about to announce his commitment to us at the all star game. It would’ve been interesting to see how it all would’ve shaken out if the Daryl gross drama would’ve unfolded while he was here.

I had to look it up. Clemson was up 35-7 late in the second quarter and Dabo decided to go for it on 4th down instead of a long field goal attempt. Dabo later said he went for it because a long FG could get blocked and run back for TD. Makes sense.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team let up in the first half of any game, not sure why Shafer thought Clemson should.

Wasn’t it Shafer that changed the whole D for GT and then got blown out?

I do like an attacking defense and did like the goal yard stance at Penn St that first year

Yeah, it was definitely an overreaction by Shafer. I do think a lot of coaches would have just run a play to run clock and get to half time with that kind of lead, and Shafer's response didn't bother me as much as it did others. He was a fired up guy. I wanted him to be successful, but he just wasn't able to cut it.
