We don’t really know how many of those sacks were against the first unit, do we? Maybe group 1 only gave up a few, and the rest came against the reserves. I would expect our DLine is deeper than our Oline right now, and the D could do a lot of damage against the second team. Also, don’t you get credited for a sack in these scrimmages if you get one hand touch on the QB?

D sounds promising but hard not be scared S less about the offense right now. Also interesting to see some names that were mentioned (Pierre) and some that were not (the wrs, our R frosh qb etc).

Dline could be a real strength this year but that oline, yikes.

Hmm I don't know what to expect based on that write up. Iffy covering Williams? TD throwing to freshman Barron? Lowery playing with Black?

I'll wait until after the UNC game before criticizing/complimenting specific players/units.

People need to get TD running from last year out of their heads. He was hurt...remember back to his running the year prior against Clemson and some of the others. He can tuck and run when not hurt. If he is healthy that will help with certain qb run plays calls and also it will help the oline.

Yes - in any scrimmage the defense already knows every offensive play and ought to win more often. Even in camps, any 1 on 1 always benefits the D. I'd be more worried if they didn't have an edge. That said, I don't like any sacks but give the OL a little slack. Babers was happy.

Yes he is behind and has some stuff to clear up but with a free year I hope we can work him in tommy said what a catch radius big potential to be a red zone threat

Unless you read the article with player name details and realize 6 sacks and 4 ints were first team d vs 2nd team O and first team O pumped 4 TDs on the second team D. Sounds like it went how it should for 1s vs 2s.

Yeah if Alford has made it stateside and is suiting up that is a big advantage for our receiving core and TD. Both he and Williams have the size to play right away. The question is can they pick up the offense and make plays when thrown there way. More plays made equals confidence and more touches.

that means that JWilliams is on the 2nd team.

throwing to Barron on the last play of the scrimmage doesn't mean anything other than Baron got run with TD on the last play of the scrimmage.

Nowhere did it say Lowery was playing with Black. It said both had 2 sacks.

yes exactly.

2 picks were from the 1st team against the 2nd and 3rd teams. Iffy and Trill then you throw in MJones who's a 1a.

I consider Black, Harper, Bear and Kinglsey to be 1's. 5 of the sacks.

Not sure where Morton and Roscoe fit in. I assume both getting run against the 2's because their likely 1st team rotation guys at DEnd.

The freshman sacks could've been against any unit, and if Wax had a sack it's because he was blitzing.
Lowery is going to be a good one though. He's fast off the edge and Shady tried like hell to flip from us.

I might be trying to spin a little but we have to call a spade a spade here. The 1s NEVER go against the 1s in these scrimmages.

I'll play it like this:

We had starting wide receivers sitting out

We had starting offensive linemen sitting out

Half of the scrimmage featured the SECOND team offense vs the FIRST team defense

A sack is recorded if a defender is anywhere near the QB. Doesn’t even have to touch him

And the offense still scored 4 touchdowns

Some of our best offensive players were held out, smartly by HCDB. He knows what they can do and he knows he cannot afford to lose them to injury in a scrimmage. Maybe other years you take that risk, but every team is much more vulnerable this season, and teams that can keep their best players healthy (and Covid free) will net more of a premium for it than usual. I would be shocked if they allowed TD to take hits.

Cavanaugh has only been here long enough to recruit and sign two classes.
