Scrimmage Recap

yes exactly.

2 picks were from the 1st team against the 2nd and 3rd teams. Iffy and Trill then you throw in MJones who's a 1a.

I consider Black, Harper, Bear and Kinglsey to be 1's. 5 of the sacks.

Not sure where Morton and Roscoe fit in. I assume both getting run against the 2's because their likely 1st team rotation guys at DEnd.

The freshman sacks could've been against any unit, and if Wax had a sack it's because he was blitzing.
Lowery is going to be a good one though. He's fast off the edge and Shady tried like hell to flip from us.

I might be trying to spin a little but we have to call a spade a spade here. The 1s NEVER go against the 1s in these scrimmages.

I counted Roscoe with the 1s as well. That man didn't choose Cuse to ride the bench, nor did we recruit him to do so. 3 year starter at McNeese in this exact system, believe he'll play a lot early due to knowledge of the system as well as pretty high level abilities.

Or the recruiting of the OL has been terrible, missing on several signees. Over 50% of the signees have never played a down because they weren’t good enough for this level. That’s the issue.
I'm curious, which players, by name, are you claiming "aren't good enough for this level"?

I really enjoy reading the tea leaves from you folks. Y'all tease out so much. It's like having 25 sportswriters of one article. I appreciate the insights.
Then again, I'm very excitable since we're undefeated so far this season.

I'll play it like this:

We had starting wide receivers sitting out

We had starting offensive linemen sitting out

Half of the scrimmage featured the SECOND team offense vs the FIRST team defense

A sack is recorded if a defender is anywhere near the QB. Doesn’t even have to touch him

And the offense still scored 4 touchdowns
Tommy says he threw 2 additional TD passes and they said they blew the whistle
He said the whistle is crazy early

He is going to play everywhere in the secondary. Corner, nickle corner and safety. The NFL guys might have told him his upside is at safety.
The question would then be- who starts next to Iffy at Corner? I'm still guessing he starts at CB

Not sure how it all works out but I know he is the most versatile defender and may be used in multiple places.

Defense should always be ahead of the offense in preseason. If the defense got shredded I'd be terrified.

A completely new defensive system that is still trying to figure out where people are going to play should be ahead of the offense? While I know we have a new offensive coordinator it’s the same system we’ve run the previous four years. I don’t think the old cliche we always hear this time of year that the defense should be ahead of the offense should apply to this team. We’ll know if it was a false alarm or a harbinger of things to come in two weeks.

I’m here to help ... The D has the advantage every year . They know our offense , or calls etc . Our RBs weren’t live , whistle blows when a defender is within 5 ft of TD
The 2 offense took the brunt as it should be the 1s . Remember after game 1 vs liberty
People praising the D , ward getting accolades. Then we got embarrassed. To sum it up it’s not real until it’s a real opponent

People need to get TD running from last year out of their heads. He was hurt...remember back to his running the year prior against Clemson and some of the others. He can tuck and run when not hurt. If he is healthy that will help with certain qb run plays calls and also it will help the oline.

THIS.

The Zone Read is utterly useless when the D knows that the QB isn’t any threat to run, and will likely hand it off 99% of the time.
They can then sell out going after the RB, which is exactly what happened to us all. season. long. last year.

Tommy does NOT need to be Dungey2.0, and throat kick LB’s and truck safeties.

He just needs to take what the D gives in those reads, and he’s got more than enough speed to pick up decent chunks of yardage when that happens.

He’s also got an extra 10+ lbs of beef on him this year, so hopefully that will help him absorb and survive any hits he does take, or allow him to do quick keepers on 3rd or 4th and short, before the D gets set.

Tommy is VERY quick for a pass-first QB, and he’s a LOT stronger than you’d think.

That's one every 10 plays. That's bloody awful.

You clearly missed the parts about that mostly being our 1st team D vs 2nd team O.

And that Dino held out numerous starters.

Our 2nd team O-line probably had a few walk-ons playing.

You’re worried that our D starters abused bench guys?
I’d be a lot more worried if they didn’t.

I said same thing last year but he wasn’t even keeping before he got hurt. Read was so open as end ran down line to rb. Very frustrating

Who beside Taj didn’t play in the scrimmage, Skill people, Oline, anyone know. Did I miss it in the thread.

That's fair, just drawing off personal experience of not being a great player but playing like one in scrimmages against much higher caliper talent. Also, one defender making a stud play can cover mistakes elsewhere on D vs only one missed assignment on offense sinking the other 10 players doing it exactly right.

I loved the throat kick but also hope we never see it from a QB1 again

This whole thing is a free pass year guys with COVID. And by free pass I mean free pass to the quarterback!
