Season was a failure

Player development during the off season was the worst I've ever seen of an SU team. Other than Dolezaj, every contributor regressed, which is bizarre for any college program. JB always talks about the importance of experience playing in the zone, yet that too regressed, especially against quality opponents. I look forward to an infusion of new blood in next years rotation. Jalen should get to work ASAP, and I think he will.

I got to admit that was the worst showing of the Orange zone defense that I have ever seen. If Tyus and Oshae think they are ready for the NBA, they better wake up and smell the roses. I did not see any excitement out of any of the players the whole night. This team does not resemble and SU BB team that I have seen in a long time. With Howard , Oshae and Battles gone next along with unpredictable Chukwu we may see a new exciting team . The kid Quincy Guerrier is a STUD. He will be worth a season ticket to see next year. We definitely need to find a good grad transfer at center. A MUST

Oshae isn’t gone.

It is what is. Programs go through periods of ups and downs. We had a great stretch and now we are having a not so great stretch. As long as things don’t get any worse, I will take the past 5 years as our bad stretch. We are Syracuse, we should be consistently better, but we are still making the tournament and we are still competitive in a down turn. Things could be soooooo much worse.

(Not saying I’m not disappointed with the season, just trying to put a positive spin on things.)

Last year the team had zero offensive ability, but hustled for loose balls and played elite D.

This year the shooting was a bit better, but it was amongst the laziest teams and defense we have had in about 10 years. No heart or killer instinct whatsoever.

I would agree with you if there was any inclination of things turning around.

All I will say is that it is hard to forecast these things. Our players didn’t seem to improve this year, does not mean we won’t see sophomore leaps from Carey, Buddy, etc. There are grad transfers on the market we can look at. It is just hard to see through the frustration right now that we do not know for a fact we won’t be better next year.

We're approaching the end of a 45 year Era of Boeheim led basketball. Towards the end of these long tenures, it inevitably goes south (Bowden and Beamer in Football, Gene Keady in basketball).

We're in that phase at the moment. There needs to be a succession plan (which we don't currently seem to have). I personally think it has the potential to get worse before it gets any better.

Sure, or it could get better. We don’t truly know what next year will be. You can’t forcast these things 8 months in advance. I get what you’re saying, but with all due respect this isn’t football and we aren’t Purdue basketball.

Don’t give me any excuses. That’s a fact.
Big, big disappointment.
But there was one big success.
12/8/18: Syracuse 72 G-town 71.
To come back and beat those scoundrels after scoring just 22 points in the first half was a great accomplishment.

The win at Duke and blowing out Louisville were nice.
Otherwise...the season is best forgotten.

Now back to our regularly-scheduled season ending brooding.

We had a succession plan and let it move to Seattle.

I have to agree. This has been one of the most painful seasons I have ever seen and I watched JB play in high school. Too many teams had career nights against us, too many foul shots missed, too many rebounds we gave up, completely disappearing in the 2nd half of most games, and my most favorite...the missed layups or put backs. The cherry on top was Frank doing whatever he did. I can honestly say, he cost us the game tonight.

He should of retired last year. Three more years :(

We'll see. But if you think this is a team on the upswing (see: Syracuse football), then I'm not sure what to tell you. 75 year old coaches rarely go out at the top of their careers. Usually if you're 75, if means you've stayed too long and no one has the balls to put you in check (maybe rightfully so).

Syracuse basketball was built by Jim Boeheim, and we owe him everything. No one will ever forget what he's done for our University. But it also doesnt mean that there isn't a point in a coaches career where its passed him by and its to the detriment of the program that he's built for him to keep hanging on. We seem to be in that phase at the moment.

Nonsense. Tell me how it could be soooooooooooooo much worse? We are just terrible

He should have started buying players like K decided to do.

Yep...and his successor is having a great deal of success in Seattle.

Never said we are on the upswing, I’m saying the floor could be so much lower and we don’t know how the guys will develop and what the new guys will offer. There is a lot of turnover that is going to happen and it could be good or bad, we just do not know yet. After a season ending loss it’s hard to see both sides. The season was a disappointment there is no denying that.

We'll see, certainly possible but I wouldn't count on much "development" of any returning guys if you saw how much development we saw out of Battle, Brissett, everyone else this year.

Im not sure you could name a player who improved from last year to this. That's concerning, no?
