Seen enough yet?

Red is doing exactly what he needs to do. When you aren’t getting what you expect from certain guys you experiment with lineups. No one has stepped up consistently to earn consistent minutes. Tonight our best lineup was our three freshman, JJ and Taylor. That group played hard and attacked the basket. Choppa has no fear and Donnie finally started to attack the rim. Taylor knocked down a couple of shots and made two huge defensive plays down the stretch. The past two games we were good from the line too. Still have defensive breakdowns, but our intensity was better in longer stretches tonight. Red is going to find out who wants to get after it and play defense. I was really impressed tonight with Donnie, Choppa and Petar. Petar just knows how to play and he’s physical. We really need that.

Well, Red has a lot to prove that he is the guy. He can recruit the position. Not much doubt about that. His bench coaching so far. has left a lot to be desired. But it would be foolish to make any permanent judgments this soon in his coaching stint. No responsible manager would ever do that.
Anyone can recruit at Syracuse. We still have enough brand power to get good recruits. It is fleeting though…

Not in NIL times. Teams that were nobodies are now somebody bc of NIL. There aren’t many guys that are getting a top 5 class like Red so you can’t really say anybody can recruit. Sure you can recruit some players but not top 30

I dont know what’s more embarrassing, how far and hard we’ve fallen as a program or the justifications and excuses people are trying to make about this circus going on right now.
When people talk about “the new normal,” it’s almost never in the context of ‘better.’

Yeah, this sucks. Not sure how embarrassing it is, since no one outside of us has been paying any attention to us in quite a while.

This is exactly where I am as well. I’ve never seen anything so obvious in my life in basketball than what we’re seeing in Carlos. Never.

My hope is Red is trying to give him leash to build his confidence against lesser teams, and it’s just not there. I’d pivot to try to give JJ confidence at the point and roll with him in conference play.

It’s better to admit you whiffed and make a good correction than to whiff and die on that hill. Admitting you’re wrong is a strength, not a weekness.
Red and the staff made mistake on his evaluation. It happens.
He simply doesn't have it at this level. He isn't going all of a sudden become a better player. It's unfortunate but he doesn't have the talent. Period. Move on and possibly give him some minutes if you need a decent ball handling G .
Start JJ and Choppa.

JB was 30 years old and had already coached the Freshman team to some great seasons, and then won right away once he took over for Danforth.
Red is over 50 and has probably learned most of what he is going to by now. Sure you always are learning, but it’s not a great comparison.
was going to make this point. Red isn’t some young, hungry coach looking to prove himself or experiment/innovative

This is the simplest and Best Occam's Razor explanation of the situation. This should be the current plan!

Yeah what context could be better? We wear script more often now? Haha

I agree. This notion that Red can’t coach is wrong. He is flat out coaching right now. We may not like the results yet but he’s working. People forget what we were watching just a few years ago

Can we please wait until all high school and portal recruits are finished before we assign a top five ranking to this class?

It’s top five of high school recruits at the present moment.

Big time. Guy is coaching his ass off.

Yes, I remember what we were watching. The product has not changed much at all.

According to KenPom, we were 81st in offensive efficiency in 2022-23 and 185th in defensive efficiency.

This year we are 68th and 153rd, having played 4 teams in the bottom half of the country - 3 below 200 RPI.

We lost to Colgate that year -- they were 115th in the country. This year they are 200+, and we barely beat them. Cornell was better that year and we beat them by 15.

All of this to say -- there's no difference in product from our worst year by a long shot and this one.

He recruited all but Bell & Starling to this roster. The freshmen are good -- and the other guys aren't bad, outside of Carlos. Lampkin sort of a bust, possibly due to injury. But all that to say, the raw materials are there to be MUCH better than this.

Our metrics are horrible. And the eye test says the same. Hope it gets better but until there are better substitution patterns, utilization of talent, and some semblance of a plan, it's not going to.

It's the same sandwich ish being sold with the new ingredients.

It's a good class that will end up around top 10-15 but we will clearly need to supplement with the portal in at least two key positions, point guard and center.

There’s 6 guys uncommitted in the top 50 that will go to schools already ranked ahead of us. It’s not moving much. I do wonder if Fennell will be the starting pg. We are seeing with Moore that outside of the EYBL kids tend to be underrated.

Seems like more wishful thinking with Fennell regarding next season. There is rarely a Tyler Ennis.

Loop Recurring GIF by Team Kennedy

1. They beat the 9.5 spread I saw.
2. First 5 minutes aside, they beat Cornell by 20 points.
3. First sign that Donnie is figuring out he is special, and needs to be assertive. (Now has to be on both ends.)
4. Emergence of Choppa. Too much deference to upper classmen. Kid is cold blooded. He needs to play, a lot.
