Seen enough yet?

You might end up being correct. I am very concerned. But smart people improve at their jobs all the time. I have had this discussion for many years with some guys that no kidding, ended up being Hall of Fame coaches. People wanted them fired early.
It's too early to start the fire the coach chant. Some of his in game coaching is questionable at times, but it's still early in the season.
Let's see where the team is at after 15 games.
After all Uconn has lost 3 in a row in Maui, is Hurley suddenly a bad coach?

2. First 5 minutes aside, they beat Cornell by 20 points.
3. First sign that Donnie is figuring out he is special, and needs to be assertive. (Now has to be on both ends.)
4. Emergence of Choppa. Too much deference to upper classmen. Kid is cold blooded. He needs to play, a lot.

Let the high ceiling guys eat, agree with you.

There’s 6 guys uncommitted in the top 50 that will go to schools already ranked ahead of us. It’s not moving much. I do wonder if Fennell will be the starting pg. We are seeing with Moore that outside of the EYBL kids tend to be underrated.
We absolutely HAVE to go get a starting PG from the portal this offseason, and it has to be a legit proven PG. To me that’s the biggest offseason need and the majority of our NIL money should go towards it, especially now with Melo’$ help. Think of how important McCord has been for football, the same is true for a top PG transfer.

All I am saying is this isn’t your run of the mill hs recruit. He’s a foreigner playing in a tough league. No one knows how he projects.

Hurley can go 0 for the next 10 seasons with the success he’s had. Red doesn’t have that luxury so of course he’s going to be second guessed. Fans want to have success and it looks like more of the same so far.

He wasn’t playing in the ACC. The ECAC East was not quite the same competition.
Well, his 4th game as hc, we beat Louisville at Louisville when they were #7 in the country, and he beat Tennessee in the NCAA first round. Seems like he might have been able to coach a bit, huh?

That may be so but next year is so important that we can’t take risks and rely on unknown commodities as starters. Depending on how this year ends up, next year is make or break for Red and he needs to hit the portal knowing that.

I don't know if you were around at that time but I was. JB took a large amount of heat for years for not winning in the tournament. Almost everyone, not me, thought he couldn't coach. I basically stood alone with people saying he couldn't coach. It really wasn't until the '96 tournament that things started to turn around.

He might not be unknown to the coaching staff. But the thing that scares is that they thought very high about Carlos.

Agreed. Every year there’s going to be high major proven players who enter the portal and we need to spend the majority of our NIL money on one at PG. This is where hopefully Melo can really help.

Yeah, Dash, I was around. In fact, I was at Manley for his first game as hc. And while I remember some criticism, where I was it wasn’t all that bad, and certainly not as early as his second year. Of course, we did not have the long track record we have now (it wasn’t that many years removed from being terrible) and social media obviously wasn’t a thing. Most of the people I hung with were pleased we had become a top 25 fixture. It wasn’t really until the early 80s I heard a lot of criticism.

Agree, although to be fair a lot of experts (coaches in his league and commentators)thought pretty highly of Carlos.

He also had a lot of flame outs early in the tournament with the far better team. It happens. Players have to play and listen.

At this point, making the tournament and flaming out like we used to would be welcome.

Well, Red isn’t building off of that, is he. He literally had to get rid of 5 guys I’m from JB’s self proclaimed best class ever.
It doesn’t take three years in this current environment.

And he brought in Carlos and Lucas Taylor. Bravo.

I take it at face value that he was a lot better during the summer and the preseason practices. We saw what he could be in the first exhibition game.

Something's not right. The guy looks shell shocked. I don't think he's this bad. But he might be this season, and minutes alone don't appear to be pulling him out of the tailspin.

Well, if you remember, his early years weren’t that overwhelming recruiting-wise. With a couple of notable exceptions (Bouie and Louie) our team in the late 70s was made up of mostly lightly recruited NY kids like Shackleford, Byrnes, Cohen and Headd that we outrecruited the likes of Bonnies and Canisius for. No realistic fan thought we should beat the likes of Kentucky or UCLA. Our recruiting and JBs reputation didn’t really explode until the wonderful confluence of the Dome, Pearl and Big Monday. In fact, JB tells of an early 80s trip to Cal when everyone one went “Hey, it’s Pearl’s coach”. Then a couple years later, the same Cal trip it was “Hey, it’s Jim Boeheim”.
