Send 200 Kids to the Texas Bowl-NunesMagician

This is a really great thing. Looking forward to the broadcast when they show a few packed sections of kids wearing orange.
Be great to see ESPN do something at halftime our game showing how this was organized and it took off.

Has anyone sent it to the PTI guys (Mike and Tony) or Around The Horn guys?

I feel like if anyone has any idea of how best to circulate this, just do it... Who cares if someone beat you too the punch! Just get it out there!

You need funds available.

PayPal works best. If you link it to your bank account then you don't incur additional fees. Very handy if you purchase things online, including eBay.

It's the (in)official SyracuseFan.com payment method for group tickets, tailgates, etc..

No. Just set up a PayPal account, and follow the instructions to have any PayPal transactions come directly from your bank account. Probably need the ABA routing number and your account number (both available on one of your checks).

Better yet, why don't you supply me with those items and I will set up the account for you. ;)

If you set up a paypal account you can assign a credit card for usage with the paypal account. I have used paypal for years with one of my cards and never have any fees.

Kudos obviously to Nunes but big kudos to the folks here too. Many have donated themselves and I know many have spread the word locally and nationally.

I know Houston is a big city, but hopefully they can find enough kids to use all those tickets!

$44K at $30 each would be 1,467 tickets!
I'm in. There's plenty of future Orange fans that will have a positive impression and recollection from this event!

Every time we think we've got a goal in mind, you guys blow past it. This is getting ridiculous...

On Monday, the goal was to raise enough money to send 200 kids to the 2013 Texas Bowl.
On Tuesday, the goal became to raise enough money to send 1,000 kids to the 2013 Texas Bowl.
Now? $36,277 later, we've surpassed all of that. We're in the 1,200 kid zone and still climbing. Texas bowl reps continually remind me that we are all good to keep raising money for more and more tickets. So, that's what we're gonna do.
Thanks to you guys, we got tons of coverage yesterday from Syracuse.com, D.O., Houston Chronicle, NBC Sports, CBS Sports and Deadspin as well as radio and TV stuff. Also, make sure you check out this handy-dandy Twitter timeline with some major moments and messages.
My guess is that we might cut the donations off at Friday because, well, we'll have accomplished a whole lot by then. Plus, we've got to get the t-shirts ordered so the kids can have them.
FYI, we've also got a few new wrinkles in the works. Some folks at SU are looking into some more goodies they can send out to the kids. And I'm having a very interesting phone conversation this morning that I will update you guys on when I can. I'd say it might take this to eleven but we're already at thirteen, so...
Anyway, keep on donating or sharing or posting or anything else you're able to do.

I think all of the intangibles are great - that the tickets will count against the SU allotment, that it reflects well on SU and the football program, that there will be more fans wearing orange cheering for our team, and maybe some of these kids will become SU fans for life (and even inspire a future SU student!). But to me, the real joy in this is embodied in the true spirit of Christmas - making an anonymous gift so some disadvantaged kid we'll never meet can enjoy an afternoon at a football game. We will never see the face of the kid whose ticket we bought, or be able to sit next to them and explain what a "blitz" is. But hopefully that kid will know that somewhere, there is someone cares about them, and knowing that "my" kid is in the stands will add to my pleasure watching the game in front of my TV.

In for $44... People have mentioned that the school does this with Big Brothers Big Sisters. But on this site, we always mention how poorly the school markets these types of things (I didn't know the school had such a program). I think it's fair to say that Sean is fairly effective at getting the word out. Maybe he'll have time to set up a 501C for next year where people can send kids for SU home games. The pros of the deal:
  • More tickets sold where we know the fans will show up in ORANGE
  • Kids become fans of the program early
  • People like me who can't make it to many games can help with attendance
  • Look how many tickets have been sold in TWO days. Imagine how much steam this campaign will gain over the course of a season.
  • Plus y'know, donating money is a nice thing to do (OK, it comes with a tax write off)
