I gotta wonder what we're gonna see, next year. I'm sure there are some inside tracks here, on the board, as well as some good guesses based on common sense and, of course, hopes and wishes. Seriously, though, I'm curious, as to what you think, because something has to happen. Honestly, I'm at a loss.

Seriously, you lost me, at the use, of 6 commas, in that last, sentence

Wooddoc just wants to generate discussion. He's a fan like us - giv'em a break guys. No wonder he's posted only 321 msgs in 10 years. It's a football board.

Angeli is the key we need him back and playing at a high level. In his absence we (as we've learned) we need a competent back up. Influx of new coaches may help matters, but it's motivated and talented players that make the difference

Reading the board, I’m glad Angeli is coming back because apparently he’s the 2nd coming of Joe Montana and 95% of the reason the team sucked so bad the last 8 games.

Half of that is true... although if you're talking about mobility I guess the Joe Montana part might be true also. Regardless the rest of the QB room played like Joe Mantegna.

Angeli did throw for more yards and TDs in just under 4 games than the rest of the QB room did in the remaining 8 plus though along with 13 fewer picks however. Hopefully we flip half the QB room with 2 transfers in to go with Lott thankfully signing and have an actual QB battle that begins well before Angeli is fully out of his walking booth.

In truth we have very few returning starters that are certain returning on either side of the ball. Same should be said for coaches returning at the positions they held last year.

This board has gotten very snarky over the last 8 games of the season. We're all on edge and frustrated (reasonably so) but it's still pretty sad how many decide to project that on others.

Thankfully signing day went well and the transfer portal opens in few weeks. Looking forward to February where we at least have an idea of roster makeup and potential depth charts along with next seasons coaching staff.

Deepest QB room ever?

Let’s do a little study.

How did we look and perform in games with Angeli as opposed to games with other QBs?

You need a functioning QB in college football full stop. It affects everything (time of possession, field position, defense not getting tired).

Nobody thinks he is Joe Montana, but when you go from competent to incompetent the wheels fall off.

Surely, you can't be serious.

I am serious, and don't call me Shirley.

It’s not that hard a concept, and doesn’t require Angeli to be Joe Montana, just a potential late round pick, similar to McCord.

With really good production from the pass game a no more than average OL wouldn’t face loaded boxes and could support an adequate run game, which in turn would lead to ball possession AND 27 to 32 pts per game AND limiting really bad turnovers, which all help a marginal defense.

Exactly. Now, should the wheels fall off? Ideally, no. Angeli clearly covered up for a lot of weaknesses. But that's not all that uncommon here and a lot of other places. McCord, Dungey, and McNabb all covered up for a lot, when we had them.

I see…

Improvement in Offense, Defense and Special Teams! I see enhanced toughness in the players, better play calling on O and D, a real QB competition, and a more seasoned coaching staff.
If we get that, we will have a better season and go bowling, again!

About what?

No one has an 8 ball to answer this question. Look at other teams this year. Penn State was #2. ASU was I think 11 or 12. Both also lost their QBs and imploded. Look at FSU over the past couple of years. Plus we are not done with recruiting and the portal. We are just out of the early signing period. We don't know who will leave via the portal and who we will pick up. The only answer is we have to believe in Fran, and I do. Most importantly he needs a serviceable backup QB.

ASU was still 8-4 and won 3 of their last 4 with the backup. Granted, not against the best competition, but we couldn't throw a forward pass in a dome against BC's 127th ranked defense.

Penn State imploded before Allar went down. Went 3-3 with the backup, but two of those losses were to the #1 and #2 teams in the country. #2 needed a miracle catch to win.

We need a much better plan B, and I think we're going to throw a lot of money at that.

A competent P4 QB is of utmost importance. It can be a game manager for all I care. Someone that can make the right read and throw on time and accurately. Get the ball in the hands of the playmakers. That opens up the run. Makes the Oline look better. Gives the defence desire to play.

We unfortunately did not have that once Angelli went down.
