Class of 2024 SF Keitenn Bristow (TX) Portal to Alabama

This kid is in the mold of a kid like Grant Nelson( Nelson started out as a nobody who had good size and did a bit of everything). He’s got work to do on his game but he does a little bit of everything already as a low major all conference freshman. In the old days it would take 2-3 yrs for anyone to even be paying attention but these days find a kid like this early.

As a long term program player, I like it.

As a player that can bring next year's team to another level, I don't see it.

Still feel like we need a more proven scorer in that backup PF/SF role to get to that spot.

25.3 Usage Rate with 54% TS. That's basically a bigger Kyle Cuffe.

From what's been reported it sounds like we are set with our starters and are filling out the roster with promising young players or veterans that can provide good bench minutes.

Bristow did get almost a block a game last season. Who knows how it will translate from the low major WAC conference to the mid major ACC, but they did seem to prioritize shot blocking at center in selecting transfers. Both Souare and Kyle, in far fewer minutes than Lampkin, blocked more shots than he did.

White also looks like a good shotblocker, and there is definitely hope for a healthy Freeman to improve in that category. It seems our roster will be much more likely to block or alter shots than this past season. Targeting Bristow would continue that trend a bit.

It’s the modern day equivalent of:
I love you do you love me? Yes or No. Circle one.

Not very fluid as an athlete. Probably had a crazy growth spurt and is filling his body out. Is TO prone and fouls a lot.
Definitely things that can be ironed out with the right coaching staff and team.
He has a nice array of moves around the paint and can shoot decent for his height.
Lots to work with here. Not an immediate impact player but could pay major dividends later on.

He seems to have played at 6’7-6’8 last year and is now 6’10 (if you believe his Instagram). I think 6’10 with the skills he has plays much better than what we see on tape. Agree there are things to clean up (turnovers) but he does defend and rebound and you could see him improving what he showed last year. His turnovers probably clean up just because of the role he would be asked to play, Tarleton asked him to do a lot offensively and Syracuse would have players create for him and let him play to his strengths.

If we lose out on Deng, I’d be thrilled with adding Bristow. 6’10 wings with this level of skill that won Freshman of the Year in a decent conference (albeit mid-major) don’t come around often even if there are areas to improve

So looks like this may be the guy? Are we going to go with that he was option one over Valencia and Deng?

Who knows who Option 1 happened to be (probably Deng) but I’ll take the 6’10” WAC freshman of the year coming off the bench. There could also be other options in play but this isn’t a bad one.

Pretty clear that we are in portal time right now where the last P5 / High Major players are going to where they will get a big bag and starting time. Next few weeks will be guys sweating to get a decent nil deal at all. Doesn’t matter where or the minutes.

Should be able to find 1-2 good value role guys for the bench. I hope we don’t hear about them anymore and just sign them.

At this point it’s hard to pretend that we have much more to offer than the next school. Prob similar NIL and they are fighting for time off the bench. Same as most other P5 programs.
