Class of 2025 SF Sadiq White (NC / IMG) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (5/29/24)

Definitely appreciate you as a poster, however completely disagree. I, do not think we were prepared, and we emphatically missed on our top targets except 1, also significant lack of funding, planning and definitely interest. Misses occurred in the portal as well as high school. We are trying to build this program largely by traditional means, it did not work and we had to pay very late because we knew we were in trouble. Tell me? How do we use JC, EL, and the two freshman DF, EM differently defensively and offensively. Give me a scheme to help plug the holes?
I don't think the guys we brought in are that good either. But you could scheme them to be better offensively/defensively than they are. There is no urgency, there is no running the floor, there is no commitment. That is coaching.

I have a question, looking at our defense last year, what do you think? He committed to man, our metrics were good until significant depletion occurred. Who implemented that last year, what happened this year? Does he forget how to implement man-to-man as well as ZONE principles in such a short period of time, or was it something else? THIS WAS A TRAINWRECK WAITING TO HAPPEN FOR 10 YEARS. This was addressed to Bnoro btw, ty as well
I might not be understanding your post. Our defense was very bad last year too. 2023-24 Syracuse Orange Men's Roster and Stats | College Basketball at Sports-Reference.com

He should go now. You don't waste a year of development in college when players are here 2-3 years. If a coach has proven he can't develop guys then get rid.
If Red had 2 horrible years in a row, I would agree with you. Last year was good for a 1st year coach who inherited a roster that he didn't build, guys who saw him as the good cop and an assistant from the year before who may not have treated him respectfully as a coach, malcontents such as Benny (dropped from team mid-season) and Copeland who we later learned was a handful. This year was a total miss on the portal guys and a step backwards. The comparisons to Payne is vastly unfair - The guy deserves another year.

Is that you Paulie?

If you can't show year over year growth that's an even bigger indictment. I was a huge defender of his last year and was extremely excited going into this year. I thought the new assistant coach would help us play better defense. I could see what he was going for with the transfer of Lampkin, and hoped that Carlos could be the type of player that could distribute and get open shots for our shooters. I expected Bell, with the bad influences in the locker room gone, to work harder and take a Southerland-esque leap into a better all around player. With JJ playing more off ball as a 2, I expected him to be the Tyus Battle type consistent scorer we needed. With more depth on the roster, I thought we'd be able to play harder on defense, be more aggressive, and run the floor.

We do literally NONE of that. It's inexcusable. The minutes distribution makes no sense. The freshmen are getting Boeheim'd. The transfers are god awful. We did a "green-out" last game.

Is there a single bright spot?

At this point, I'm resigned to our current head coach getting a third year. Not based upon performance / merit -- but, just "because."

And next year, given the roster attrition -- which will be massive -- we'll have to bring in a bunch of new faces, and run it back, doing the same thing and hoping for a different result.

Only next year, the crowds will be smaller, the patience will be thinner, and a lot of the rationalized support will erode if things continue down this path.

Well said.

Alternatively, keep up the negative comments and remove the HC and have the recruits that commit to play for him at Syracuse go elsewhere.
Sign me up for that. Exactly what the program who just embarrassed us in our 2/3 empty gym just did.

If Red comes back next year unless the team starts winning about 23-25 games with no bad loses, the fans will not come back. 22 or less wins and it will continue to go downhill.
It's better to cut your loses now and completely move on from the JB era, and start building something for the future.

Isn’t it an indictment more than a credit? That he did better with the last guy’s players than with his own? Either way the trend is still steeply downward, and that’s down from a not very good position. Another year, for what? To trust/believe groundlessly that this year was an aberration? Or for him to learn basketball? To hope that a recruiting class can perform well enough to overcome the lack of coaching? To hope Melo buys enough top portal talent to overcome the lack of an offensive scheme and defensive technique?

Why should we keep hoping for the perfect formulation of new toys to overcome the basic, foundational issue?

I think the win against Chaminade gave us the 20th win, but the tournament doesn’t count that as a win because they are a division 2 school.
Ah. Thank you.

I guess the patience, respect and understanding for most on this board was fully spent on JB. When I was hard on him since 2015 and thought he overstayed his welcome in 2016, he hung on for several more years and dragged the program deep into the toilet. Meanwhile, a lot of posters, though upset, would say a lot of reverential foolery such as "he is the program" "he built it from the ground up and so he should be able to go out on his own terms or whenever he's ready." Now Red is on the shortest leash. I wonder if McNamara was the coach instead of Red, with the same exact situation as Red, would he be given more leeway and understanding?

I watched the game last night. He really moves his feet well on defense and challenges shots. He has an effect on people not wanting to challenge him inside. They ran absolutely nothing for him on offense. He’s more energetic than anyone currently on our team. He would be by far the best defender on this year’s team. It’s hard to tell what he can do, besides dunk bevause he’s not involved handling the ball. He’s left handed, but goes right really well. He’s like the energizer bunny. He doesn’t stop moving. We might finally have a forward who has hops to actually dunk the ball. The lob pass will finally return if we have a willing passer.

I'm no O79 (who is?)...but will say it here - Sadiq White people!
