I’ll be curious to see if any of our guys put on weight this off season with Cabiles out now.
Five months till preseason practice starts. Hopefully most of them come in bigger with visible improvements in their physique.

I would feel a lot better about Kyle and Souare comprising our center duo if both of them were ten pounds heavier without losing their athleticism. Both have down the ability to gain good weight during their time in college. Hopefully our new program can help them continue that progress.

Similarly, Freeman and White getting bigger would be helpful. Betsey might be too big, actually. He looks slower in his college highlights than he did in his high school highlights… Although that apparent difference might be level of competition.

I know that Fennell is generally considered to be much more prepared, but didn't we say the same thing about Petar last season?

Edit: I see a bunch of people beat me to this thought.
You really can’t compare Fennell to Petar. Totally different skill level. To be fair, Petar did pretty well for a freshman big.

Fennell is on the Australian national team. Petar was no where near that accomplished.
Agreed. The NBL is twice the league Petar was in too. Petar was playing in the b league in Europe. Fennells league is where Lamelo Ball, Josh Giddey, and Kris Humphries came from. The NBL has produced just under 200 NBA players.

See, this is why I like this board. I'm not very plugged in and I learn things like this here. Thanks for the info.

10 pounds of good weight in the shoulders, chest and arms would be good for all of them.
But the real type of strength you need to defend guys bigger than you and not give up ground takes strength in your legs.

Hope Tyler Betsey (.538), JJ(.685), Wm Kyle (.395) and Ibrahim Souare (.313) all practice hard and get their free throw % over 70%.
Maybe they can hire Shaq as coach to help the centers bring up their FT percentage...:confused:

Fennell was on their u18 National team, not the National team. Still impressive, but not the roster with all NBA players.
Definitely impressive and I'm looking forward to seeing his game. I'm just hoping this isn't like Copeland and Taylor being touted as IMG recruits when they were not on the National IMG team with all the top national recruits on it. They were on IMG's Varsity team which is more of a good high school than select prep. Still highly rated recruits but we found out the difference.

Australia is one of the top countries in international basketball. A 17 year old isn’t going to be on their Olympic/National team. Australia has 26 million people and a very good developmental system. Fennell is on their national U18 team. That is quite the accomplishment.
Remember these stats from our friend Neil Adler

In recent days, Fennell has been competing for Victoria in Australia's U20 national championships. In one game, when Victoria beat South Australia, 104-75, he tallied 31 points in just 23 minutes of court time. Fennell, who also had five rebounds and one assist, went 12-of-19 from the field, 5-of-11 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Yes, Fennell is like getting kids who played on a US U-18 international team in a summer tournament. Quality talent. Not a fully mature player yet. But used to playing with other good players. (This last part is underrated in its importance.)

I've probably seen as much or more of Betsey as anyone else. Pretty much every game. When Red said he wanted a little more size at SF that could hopefully shoot Betsey is who came to mind for me. His freshman stats are horrible. But he basically forced his way into playing time and ended up 9th in minutes on a team with basically 10 guys averaging 10+. He took a lot of 3's with guys in his face. Mainly because he ended up with the ball and had to make a play, that accounts a little for his 3FG which has lots of room to improve. His other problem at UC was he essentially played 2G when he did play which forced him to the high wings most of the time instead of along the baseline. He isn't coming in to start but he will have no fear matching up against any player in the country. Top 50 recruit with HS offers from Duke, Kansas and UConn. The upside potential is tremendous and he provides a little needed size/width for this season. He'll be part of the rotation and I'd guess 10-15 minutes minimum.
Nice to see some first person knowledge. Would you please comment on his athleticism and defensive abilities.

Whoever keeps doing that ridiculous Dragan photoshop treatment should be spanked with a young, green switch. Not sure why you’d want to make people uglier.

It has been said on more than one occasion that Autry and staff believe that Fennell would be a top 25 recruit if he played in the States.

I think we got a real steal here and we all should be stoked to see him play at Cuse

And I hope Betsey kills it in Orange!

Florida being involved is all I need to know. I hope in a year we will be able to look back and realize how significant it is to have Alex Kline involved. If he didn’t bleed orange, I think he would be doing just fine and great things at either the NBA level or even another very high profile college program. Look at the Knicks, I wonder how much his work there is a result of where that organization is at currently.
