Class of 2019 SG August Mahoney (NY) Portal from Yale

So after hearing what Lampkin said about being a facilitator this makes a lot of sense. JJ is your north south driver who plays fast but is a mediocre but still capable shooter, Bell is an elite shooter and you have playmakers and ball movers around them so adding another big time shooter to go with Moore the frosh makes a lot of sense. Carlos plays less than 30 and you mix and match ball handlers when he is out but ultimately you always have guys who can handle it and facilitate on the floor.

Something like this has always been (or should have been) the vision Red is selling: "We are a 'mix and match' roster. Everybody should get 20 minutes, and the guys who are playing best, or who provide the best matchups, will get more, on a game by game basis. Just look at my team last year - everybody got a fair chance to play."

This is the key. There's room for him if he can sometimes guard a SF.

Happy seeing Westry play the other day, even if he didn't look very sharp in that clip, with the stumble in the lane. Autry is willing to play big guards on small forwards.

That can work, until you get a swingman like Royal Ivy trying to guard a small forward like Melo. LOL

I still want another , just so we have 4. Get SOMEBODY.
If, as I think, we're talking about the same clip... Westry was definitely fouled from behind by the big guy before stumbling. They must have been playing street rules "no blood no foul"

I would not let one of the keys to my season play in a game without officials, but Red's gotta be Red.

"And if everybody that plays your position but you is injured or kicked off the team, you get to start and play 40 minutes!"

One would have hoped that they posted a better clip, if they had one.

So if this somehow happens ( not sure how the recent ruling makes it so but awesome if it does)… does that move JJ to starting PG and Carlos off the bench?

Likely, yes and a lot of moving the ball up the court with the pass when Carlos is not in the game.

Certainly hope not. We need a point guard who is actually a point guard. If we somehow got Mahoney, bring him off the bench for instant offense (though I wouldn’t be surprised if Moore provides that).

I still don't understand how he would be eligible. The transfer route for an extra year doesn't apply to him and the Ivy kids never had a real case to get an "extra" covid year.

Unless the ruling was tossed given the NCAA was going to issue this anyway and a team cancelling the season qualifies as “previously ineligible”?

And you gotta be you, do you know how long the SUMBB team has been playing pickup ball in the off season?

Any sentence with JJ and point guard in it makes me sad.

He probably handled the ball 15-20% of the time last year. You shouldn't be so concerned.

Playing with a random stranger who will foul you deliberately from behind while chasing a loose ball is different from playing with teammates who actually care about your health.

Also, Red grew up playing in NYC, he probably doesn't think twice about Westry playing a rough and tumble pickup game in Philly.

It makes me nervous, but Red's probably got a different level of intestinal fortitude.

I mean, shooting some bball outside of the school always carries a certain amount of risk in Philly.

You never know when a couple of guys who are up to know good are going to start making trouble in your neighborhood.

I think it is a good idea to let Chance play as much as possible this summer. If he is going to get hurt, it is better to know ASAP. Red needs to know what his roster looks like and who he can count on.

That brings me to a question. We were supposed to do a tour of Israel last summer as a team but it was cancelled due to security concerns (which turned out to be well founded).

I assume Israel is still off limits for a summer tour right now. Is the team still planning on going on a summer tour? If so, where?

I think playing some games in Ottawa, Toronto and maybe Montreal would be a smart move. And give me a chance to watch some SU games this summer in person. Canada is flush with great basketball prespects. I think it would be a great move to tour some basketball hotbeds and maybe do some recruiting while giving our team filled with newcomers some much needed opportunities to play together early.

We played some rough games at Barry park, much less the big cities.

But, as I said, I'm probably a worry wart when it comes to such an often injured, critical player for next season.

I wish we had more video
