Class of 2024 SG Gavin Doty (NY) Portal from Siena

There is a massive gap between the MAAC and the AAC. A BH team would probably have beaten Siena by 20 points this year.

Enis is far more of a volume shooter and doesn't have great numbers, but his splits from 3 are still far better than Doty/Kiyan. The biggest thing with Enis is BH actually has an offensive system where bringing him in would help translate to the other players.

Again I'm more than fine with Doty as a 7th man. It is a massive step up to ACC basketball.
lol 💀

Do you understand Doty was the star of the team getting guarded by the best defenders each night snd game planned to stop? Please bro gtfoh. Go watch Providence with that scum bh.

We will see- I’ll take Doty over Enis that’s for sure. 6-5 and does a lot more vs 6-2 and needs a specific system.

If Doty can add weight and make the jump to being at 35 pct or better from 3 he’s good enough for starters minutes or being a 6th man. A lot depends on who comes in to run the point and returns or comes in to play the other wing position. Also whether Donnie returns or we bring in his replacement too.

Buddy said JJ’s weakness was with layups LOL.

His senior year he was weaker in every statistic. Finishing at the rim was one of his biggest strengths.

This whole Doty conversation is brain dead.
This is one of your roll your eyes and revisit the thread in 1-2 years threads.

Im fine with Doty starting doesn't bother me at all, kid plays hard, has one of the best motors in the nation, rebounds and plays D. Most importantly him and folifac (?) bring the culture that Gerry is trying, and needs to, instill here. The kid can play and if he starts it doesn't mean he has to play 40 min a game.

I’m trying to remember that last really good two way player for SU. It’s always seem to be either or.

Firing on So if effective FG% is within 4%, and JJ played in a much tougher league. We also know JJ had a big weakness with layups. So yeah I would say it's pretty close.

I don't really care about Evan Miya's made up statistics.

Correct, a lot depends on who else we bring in.

Do you understand he was playing the "best defenders each night" in the MAAC? And now he'd be playing against ACC size and athleticism?

Why would I go watch Providence over the school I actually attended?

Because you clearly wanted bh as the coach and sound like a miserable fan here.

I was on the hill for the winningest 4 years of the program's history. We had a little number next to our name for pretty much every single game I was there. 95% of the reason I went to SU was Gerry in the BET in 2006.

I'm a miserable fan because I've seen JAB and Red run the program into the ground and felt that we needed to bring someone in with new ideas. Schertz, Martelli, Hodgson were my preferences.

It's a message board. I'm allowed to say I didn't like the Gerry hire, but also that I like the assistants we're rumored to be bringing in. I'm allowed to say I don't like Gavin Doty as a starter, but also that I like him as a 7th man.

No one gets anything for being right or wrong on here, we're a bunch of people yelling at clouds.

What do people mean when they say ACC level starter? There are 18 teams and 90 starters. There are a lot of players that are better than some of those 90 guys. I think the question needs to be can Doty and Folefac be a part of a top 5/6 roster in the ACC. The answer to that is emphatically, yes.

Its very hard to judge their roles until the roster fills out. Two quality players that Gerry knows will play his way and help instill his culture are no brainers IMO. That doesn't mean I think both should be instant starters/primary options/35 min guys. I do think both are a great start to building a roster.
Exactlyyyyyy what I have been saying. Couldn’t agree more

Jerami Grant would like a word.
One of the biggest exceptions in the sport of the last 30 years.

Yes it is possible, but very unlikely and takes a special athlete to make it possible. Grant literally is built different than most basketball players, which gave him a chance to do that

The issue isn’t the opinion - it’s the absolutist nature of the opinion. Everyone has opinions. There is a difference between saying it’s unlikely that a player raises their 3pt % that much and saying it will never happen. Because it has happened. 🤷‍♂️

I think what’s annoying is that you’re letting your preference turn into relentless negativity and beating the crap out of near every move

Let it play out. Wouldn’t you love to be wrong?

John Wallace made the jump as a shooter 0 as a frosh to 42 pct as a senior.

Kris Joseph went from a 20 pct 3 pt shooter to 35pct

Wes Johnson went from 29 pct as a frosh at Iowa state to 41 pct the year he played here

Rautins went up every year from 32 pct to 40 pct

Scoop went from 27 pct to 37 pct

Right: the post that was replied to stated: "never". Absolutes don't play well.

Gavin is a junkyard dog type of player. Will grab rebounds through the trees that you think he has no business in grabbing. Syracuse has lacked that type of player for a long time. He also really improved his 3 pt shooting percentage from freshman year to sophomore year and credited G-Mac with keeping him honest with his form. Would not be shocked to see him continue to add to his skill set and get better as he is that type of player who seems to love basketball and love winning.

And if I remember correctly during one postgame he credited GMac with telling him to stand tall through his jump shot which led to more consistency in his shooting. Think there is more to unlock there.

Agree and GMac has the key!

Maybe we keep JJ as the shooting coach? He is the only player I have seen that regressed from HS and trended down each year to the point he could not make a free throw. Chuck Knoblauch

The big thing here that overlaps is the likely massive haul of a coaching staff too. That’s a big part of this stuff too.
