Yeah, I don't really mean "hater" in a "you're dumb if you dislike his game" kinda way. I guess "doubters" would be a more accurate term and I'd count myself among them. I think those are all fair critiques for where his game currently is.I know it's just an off hand comment and you aren't agreeing, but want to comment before that narrative starts this offseason
Is it hating if you are using actual stats to back up your claims?
JJ is an inefficient offensive player, shaky 3pt shooter, and bad defender.
He's an above average to very good slasher/scorer, but feels like he needs to put up a lot of shots to get those points.
I feel like these are all fair critiques.
Hating would be suggesting JJ should be playing D2 or something.
I hope he staysJJ can easily be replaced too.
FT shooting is also a disaster and a shooting guard that can't shoot 3's is kind of a problem. He likely ends up shooting more long 2's if he adjusts where he shoots from.Yeah, I don't really mean "hater" in a "you're dumb if you dislike his game" kinda way. If I'm being generous, I don't think his shooting ability has to improve a ton for the efficiency to get to an acceptable level. His percentages are actually quite good until you get to the 3 point line. Tweaking the shot diet and making the most of his athleticism on defense would probably turn him into a valuable college player (at least by our standards). I don't think it's impossible but it will require improvements that we haven't really seen much of from him.

Sidenote: Crazy thing that stood out as I looked at our player's on/off splits: in conference play, Jaquan Carlos' net rating was +12.3. Next closest that played real minutes was Lampkin at +7.5. Carlos' +12.3 put him in the 87th percentile in the country.
Probably one of my hotter takes: I really don't care about the free throw shooting at all. JJ shooting 68% at the line is far more efficient than basically any other shot our team will ever attempt (aside from a better free throw shooter getting to the line). If JJ could draw a foul every possession, we'd have the best offense in basketball history. Being realistic, yeah, the games where he's shooting below average at the line, it'll hurt when we lose by like 1 or 2 points and you know a better FT shooter would have won it for us, but you have to start shooting closer to 45-50% at the line before it actually becomes a problem compared to most of the shots you get out of half-court offense. It's frustrating because it feels like it shouldn't be that hard to become a good free throw shooter, but bad free throw shooting is still better than good offensive sets most of the time.FT shooting is also a disaster and a shooting guard that can't shoot 3's is kind of a problem. He likely ends up shooting more long 2's if he adjusts where he shoots from.
It drives me insane that we rely so much on one player in isolation who is inefficient from deep. I thought that would change when JB left, but that has picked right back up with Judah and JJ. We are playing a completely different sport.
div 3, that's the staff's focus this time aroundFrom a P5 or mid-maj?
Right. I would like to blame autocorrect, but pure failure to proof readThat’s awfully personal

This again????People worry about three point shooting percentages. The difference between a 33% shooter and a 37% shooter is four more made out of 100 shots. Now divide that over 31 games and it’s miniscule.

What about replacing a 26% 3 point shooter with a 37% 3 point shooter? That’s 14 more makes and we may win 5 more games.People worry about three point shooting percentages. If it is Desmond, my understanding is that his mom is Paula Moore, who played on the SU women’s basketball team. My guess is that she would love to see him finish his career in Orange, with a Syracuse degree.agree. but i'm also an optimist.
Actually 11 more, or 1 every 3 games.What about replacing a 26% 3 point shooter with a 37% 3 point shooter? That’s 14 more makes and we may win 5 more games.
I was posting about someone who had 142 attempts this year.Actually 11 more, or 1 every 3 games.
Asking for a lotIf we roll out with
PG: Desmond Claude
SG: Starling
Bench: Melvin Council, Anthony, Fennell
Westry if healthy can play guard/forward tweener role. Obviously big IF. But looks like he might be staying
Forwards: Freeman, portal 3 that can shoot and play D
White as the 6th man, Womack, Petar back up 4 minutes
Center: give me a defensive presence on defense. Someone who is gonna average 2-4 blocks a game, 7-10 rebounds a game, I don’t care if they average 5-7 ppg. Just give me someone who protects the rim and grabs boards.
Bench: back up center in the portal that’s not a senior and has potential, and Petar in a pinch
I’d be happy with that team tbh. However, a lot to be desired with Red’s coaching. I don’t know if Red could coach our 2010-2012 teams to 20 wins tbh. And they were loaded
%s are %s. Any way you cut it, it’s 11 more per 100 shots.I was posting about someone who had 142 attempts this year.

Yeah I don’t expect much if anything from him. But I was just throwing him out there cause I expect him to be part of the roster/scholarship count at this point. Obviously I’m not expecting him to get minutes. But he’s someone that will probably be on the team so had to put him on there lolWestry?!
His mom played hoops at Syracuse….Claude is a name I’ve heard floated..I didn't realize Desmond was born in Syracuse. Grew up in CT.
He's an aggressive playmaker who makes a lot of great passes...but also a lot of TOs. Would love his size. Could be a good addition. He's gotten better each year.
Career 27% 3-pt. shooter. His mom played hoops at Syracuse….Claude is a name I’ve heard floated..
The numbers and metrics I think are fair game.Career 27% 3-pt. shooter.
USC stinks.
What are we doing?
