it would be interesting to know how Syracuse is approaching FA here. Gotta believe that our GM is communicating behind the scenes to the top players to gauge interest and how much they want. Like FA in other sports, sometimes just money is not enough.
So it's plausible we will only get those who either want only money or those where there is a link. You can only sign the ones who reciprocate interest and with the current status of the program(including Red's hot seat status),we are what we are.

I am not concerned about Claude as a player because he is a good one. What concerns me is that we went after him last year too. Wasnt Alex Kline supposed to handle our roster management? For someone whos supposed to build an elite roster, having 2 guards who shoot 30% from 3 cant be what hes looking for...

Just curious as to what has led us to think Red wants to play like St Johns? I do think Kline values shooting.

Wants to play NYC style bball with multiple ball handlers getting up and down in transition, big guards who can’t shoot, etc.

Cant wait to see where this kid ends up. One thing that we need is more size. Shooting and size all over the board especially at G position. Cant win with two smurfs on the floor. Not sure who we are targeting at the point but they had better be a hell of a lot better than Carlos. Kid played hard just didnt have the talent to compete at our level.

If it is Desmond, my understanding is that his mom is Paula Moore, who played on the SU women’s basketball team. My guess is that she would love to see him finish his career in Orange, with a Syracuse degree.

To me Claude is a JJ replacement - he’s a good player but they don’t really fit together IMO. Neither is a good shooter or defender.

That would be 3 years in a row with a backcourt that can’t shoot.

I have been around plenty of programs that have really good assistant coaches, but struggle.

The head coach is such an important position and it is CLEAR as day that we have an atrocious one on all fronts.

I don't care if Alex Kline is Erik Spoelstra - if the head coach has final say and he doesn't listen, then it really doesn't matter at all.

We are arguing over a shooting guard who shoots 26% from 3, plays zero defense and has 8 more assists than turnovers for his career. All because this fanbase is drunk on iso ball.

Mintz was an elite isolation player, but it’s impossible to win enough when you only have one play. Starling is a good, maybe even great isolation player, but not as consistent as Mintz because he couldn’t get to the line the same way.

I wish Red had more offense when the isolation isn’t working.

This isn't the place for this post, but since we are talking about JJ...I was watching some of his high school highlights last night. His shooting stroke was so much better, although it didn't have much rotation. And, I saw him finish smoothly with his left hand a few times!!! That injury really messed him up. But, I have faith that he will put in the work to improve his shot and his left hand this offseason. The defense is the concerning part, because he is an exceptional athlete and there is no excuse for his crappy defense since he's been here.

Maybe, but his shot was still broken. His free throw form is hideous. He needs to break that down and start new.

Starling looked like his mental game at the line was unhealthy. I don’t think that is a skill issue. His bad three point shooting probably has some mental problems origins as well. It’s like he’s thinking through the mechanics of the entire shot, instead of having muscle memory handle everything.
