Class of 2025 SG Kiyan Anthony (NY) COMMITTED & SIGNED TO SYRACUSE (11/15/24)

Really happy to see him and cheer, but we were all kind of looking around like 'oh are we supposed to stand maybe? are other people standing?'

In hindsight it's unfortunate it was a game without the student section/cheerleaders/dancers to hype him up more.

Kiyan is more skilled than any guard currently on our roster. He just needs to get stronger. Teams will play hI’m physical until he shows he can handle it.

Everyone seems to think we have limited NIL funding. This year shows that we should target quality rather than quantity.
We also need to have a roster of 10-12 players. Four portal guys are leaving with four coming in. I’m sure there will be some players leaving too.

Need to temper expectations. Kiyan is not Carmelo. Carmelo was a generational talent, physically and mentally far beyond his years as an incoming freshman. Those expecting a repeat savior are not being realistic.
Most people agree with you. I don’t think anyone on this board thinks he will be Melo; most posts are like yours when this topic is brought up.

I am curious what the most casual fans think and only know the name so they assume he’ll be like Melo.

I don’t think anyone has real high expectations for next year. Donnie was higher rated than Kiyan and Sadiq.

My optimistic hope is that Kiyan has an advanced offensive game for his age due to his dad.He will be able to get his spots and hit shots. I bet he pretty consistently gets to 15ppg. I’m not sure about his defense or rebounding.

He will be able to replace a big part of JJs scoring.

Ultimately we will need to hit big in the portal. I do like this class but we still need to add a lot to this roster

I don’t know anyone here that thinks he’s anything like his dad, or that he will have an impact like him especially after year 1.

Where is JJ going?

I truly hope JJ stays, loyalty should speak for something. If he wants to play in the NBA it must be at the 1 or a combo guard. Barring his injury, he should have played this position at the beginning of the year, undoubtedly upon looking at the roster. With JC coming off the bench. Moore would have much better shot selection if JJ played the 1. I do not want to speculate medically, however if he does not come back in the next 2 weeks, outlook for return this year is grim... concerning what occurs next year with JJ, I so trust he is here. I believe he would have a medical redshirt. We need another lead guard desperately in addition to him. Other pieces as well. I truly like how Red is recruiting, going to take some time.

No one is expecting Kiyan to be a Melo-like savior. Where are you getting that? The dregs of Social media?

But his presence on the team will hopefully spur Melo and friends to help boost our mediocre NIL coffers.

Outside of the three freshmen, I think the whole roster should be reset going into next season.
I bag on him a lot, but JJ should be a keep. We are never going to make the tournament if we have no continuity. We aren’t going to get 4 or 5 great players in the portal and freshman are not carrying us to the tournament. Look at Rutgers this year.
