Class of 2026 SG Mark Morano Mahmutovič (Slovenia) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (4/6/26)

What I want to see is someone go back to a high-low offense. Because if you are going to run the high pick with your center (or a PF), then you HAVE to have your other big somewhere on the low post. Our offense put the forwards mostly on the wings and in the corners, with nobody down low to get the offensive boards.

Donnie was a good rebounder on the defensive end, but he almost never got offensive boards, especially compared to other bouncy combo forwards from our past who we are going to compare him to.

Same with Eddie Lampkin. terrific defensive rebounder by the numbers, but putting him out at the 3 point line setting picks took away his clever inside passing, and his ability to bull his way to some offensive boards, too.

So, I think both of those guys were victims of a poor offensive structure. You need a guy in the low post.

And who ever you use to set the pick up high, that guy should be able to pop and make a 3 from the top of the key area. If that guy can't do that (and ours couldn't until late in the year he started trying Donnie as the high pick man for a few sets a game), then that's not the guy you want out there at the 3 point line.

When you had Will Kyle as the pick man, ALL HE COULD DO was roll to the rim. It was too predictable, plus it clogged up the lane preventing JJ and the other guys from driving as easily to the rim.

A Five-Out offense does not lead to offensive rebounding. And if you don't have a PG with excellent decision making skills, and shooters all around, it just doesn't work.

I hope Gerry figures out that part of the offense, the high-low game.

And they have to move a lot more without the ball.
That's what turned UConn back into champions a few years ago.
Lampkin led the ACC in offense rebounds per game, just sayin

From your mouth to God’s ear.
Do we count Luke Wilson as a "very good rebounder" at center? I am not sure. He probably immediately is our best rebounder, but is he actually good enough to carry the load surrounded by average at best rebounders? Would he qualify as good enough to suffer a "three wing and Dual" lineup in order to get more offense on the court? A Wilson, MMM, Tobiason, Doty, Dual lineup is probably our best offensive lineup, and wouldn't be small necessarily, with 6'9, 6'7, 6'5, 6'5, 6'5 being a pretty good sized lineup.

I am pretty focused on what happens when White is out, he is extremely foul prone, 6.7 per 40 minutes of play, and will need to be subbed out even if he gets that under control.

On White and the fouls I think we won't know how his foul trouble looks until next year. He was in and out of the starting lineup all year, minutes and rotations were a mess with Autry. With a more established role and steady mins it should look alot different.

He's not some giant 7'2 guy with bad coordination getting caught fouling all the time. He's just gotta get a better feel for the game, also some of it was just refs not liking his stare downs after dunks and alot of phantom calls.

He looks like he can really shoot. Unfortunately he also looks a bit unathletic and doesn't appear to be a great leaper. Would seem to be a good backup when shooting is needed but probably won't be a great defender except in zone situations.

Wait, is this sarcasm?

3m is are back up forward!!!
He is? Ar me hearties! I didn't know that. I must have missed GMAC's announcement about this. Silly me. Here I was thinking he might actually be good enough to start! Thanks for the insights bro!

Mahmutovič isn't skinny, but he also isn't Tyler Betsey, who was listed at 6'8 220.

MMM being 6'7 205 should about right. Another year of proper dedication to S&C and he might be Betsey size. It feels like somebody accidentally gave him the 30lb that Luke Wilson lost since freshman year.

Betsey was too heavy. I’d put him at 240-250. As someone who weigh 220 at 6’3 there’s no way I believe that number. It was a big reason why he couldn’t stay with anyone on defense.

Betsey definitely did some good work bulking up, and it seemed to cost him some speed and agility. He was massive, but still wanted to play like a guard.

Did you mean stand in one spot and shoot if someone passed him the ball and he was open? I cannot remover a single time when he was at the front of a break headed to the rim.

He looks about 175-180 lbs in this video. A far cry from 230.
I'm 6'3" 205, and he looks more solid than me in the legs, at least. No way he's 180 unless one of those legs is hollow, you know, to accommodate more beer.
