Fun fact: Greg Monroe shot 44% from 3 as a senior...which was the 1st year of the 3point shot.He reminds me of Greg Monroe.
He reminds me of Greg Monroe.
I can still see him in NO.Second half. SU up 8, and rolling. Fast break. Greg takes a 3 in transition. If it goes, we romp. He misses. IU scores. The rest is history. To this day, I still think it’s a good shot.I got to have Greg as a coach when I was playing in 10th grade. Pretty cool to hear his stories about his time playing.
I haven't seen him in 20 years but I think he's doing allright.
I sat next to him when i was like 13 at my high schools varsity game. I was playing JV. Probably 1990. He was working as a scout of some sort..I think he was recruiting a player that ended up at Nazareth..this was at Chittenango.I got to have Greg as a coach when I was playing in 10th grade. That kinda describes his game when he would jump into the full court scrimmages with us, transition 3's.I can still see him in NO.Second half. SU up 8, and rolling. Fast break. Sounds about right. My first interaction with him came when I was real young as a camper at Nazareth in about 94. I recall him saying he was a scout or agent or something. I didnt understand what that meant at the time. Anyways he asked me who I think I should have an eye. I said Ryan Blackwell. Both from Pittsford (different HS) and eventually for Ryan SU guys.I sat next to him when i was like 13 at my high schools varsity game. I was playing JV. Probably 1990. He was so cool. Fun guy
Chatting, sharing stories with me as i was a little kid. He gave me his hat signed out of the blue as he left...I was so impressed.
His sister plays at UConn as well.
My lasting memory- and I’ve never rewatched it (too painful) is that Cuse had a bit more time but Derrick froze getting the ball inbounds and maybe two seconds went by before he inbounded. By the time he threw it in it was too late… maybe 1 second. Cuse was soooo close to three titles (they’d have won if Arinze didn’t go down). Sigh.Fun fact: Greg Monroe shot 44% from 3 as a senior...which was the 1st year of the 3point shot.
also ave. 4 assists as a shooting guard.
*This somehow led me to watch the end of the Indiana game 1987...we shouldve had 4 seconds after Keith smarts shot instead of 1!
I dont remember that, I may have just blocked it out of memory.
But 4 seconds is an eternity compared to 1 second at the end of a game!
