Class of 2020 SG/SF Nate Kingz (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/25)

I think the only guy who the staff was surprised by was Dedan Thomas from UNLV. They thought they were in a good spot until LSU threw $EC money around. There are still a number of good point guards available.
Seems like we were more than competitive for Thomas unlike Mack and Leffew last season which is a good sign.

Big upgrade over Bell
We have to get used to saying he’s an upgrade over Taylor (which he is) because Bell was benched. Then Sadiq is more talented than Bell/Davis. Makes our team sound deeper than it is. Little spin game.

Probably has already been said but my favorite thing in watching his highlights is how many of his shots are coming off screens and moving. Reminiscent of some of our best shooters over the year.

And lefty’s always look so smooth which is cool.
What would be SU's all-time lefty team?

I, too, was a Delt. Much older than you. Back in my day I was fortunate enough to get housing in Lawrinson, which was almost brand new at the time, so I never lived in the house.

Nonetheless, I did board at the House for one or two semesters. Food was much better, but man it was a long walk from Lawrinson in the cold.
Hell yeah delt bros. I live there for a semester in the early 2000s after the renovation, and frankly remember very little

Forget about comparing Kingz to Bell from this year, who was an all around disappointment.

Kingz is better than sophomore year Bell. He is kind of what we hoped Bell would be as a Junior.

Compared to Bell’s best season, Kingz shoots a higher percentage from three, he rebounds, gets steals, and blocks a little better, and he turns it over a little less. Kingz is a much better passer, getting almost three times the assist rate than Bell’s best year.

Kingz is a slightly plus defender, better than Bell in his best year by a little bit. Kingz also can score going to the basket, something Bell rarely even attempted, much less accomplished.

Kingz is a much better all around player, and impossibly, is even more elite than Bell at the most important skill in the game.

My biggest concern is why he was so selective in his shooting. Scoring 12 on only 8 shots is insanely efficient, they should have had him shooting more. But being selective and good is way better than being a gunner and bad, so it’s hard to even quibble with that.

Kingz last season TS% .655
Bell’s best season TS%.587

If Kingz were our best incoming transfer, I would be ok with it. He is very good.

I think the big difference is that Kingz is supremely motivated because of his background. He has some dawg in him, he is playing for more than just glory. Bell has a safety net and he plays like it.

It would behoove us to bring on at least one player who knows how to set picks.

This is one of a few areas that we really need to improve on.

Kyle does a good job on the picks in the pick and roll.

He set a couple vicious ones that almost certainly get called fouls if we’re playing vintage ACC teams. They were No calls in whatever league Oregon State played in this past year.

We are building a REALLY athletic team. We need to hire a couple of new coaches that can teach these guys how to play the way we want. Building the roster without adding the coaches is pointless.

I suppose if you squint, you can see a smaller Todd Burgan…

Great pickup. Still need another shooter on this roster (preferably another guard)

I think Freeman is going to be able to knock some 3s down from the 4/PF position.
I’d watch out for Darren Harris; a Duke reserve. I think he’ll hit the portal after their season is finished.
