Class of 2020 SG/SF Nate Kingz (OR) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/2/25)

Some games, teams are going to pick their poison and decide to double Freeman. Kingz will be our lead scorer a lot of those games. Will there be enough games like that for averages to favor Kingz?
If they’re going to double him he will have to be in the low post. Teams aren’t doubling him at the three point line. He didn’t play in the post much last year.

What is this word “pick” you speak of? I remember a lot of picks set for Gerry and Andy. Not so much recently. Lately it’s more like just stand in a spot in the corner until a pass hits you.
Gerry, Andy, Buddy, JG3, even Cooney were all very good at shooting off a screen. Every shooter we have had the last 2 years was a stand still shooter only. None could shoot on the move, side to side. I can’t say that’s why we see so little of it, but we did screen plenty for JJ to drive (into a collapsed defense).

With Lampkin, Freeman didn’t have a chance to find his offensive identity right away.

Freeman was a top50 forward as a Junior in high school based on his post game, rebounding and general athleticism. He shot up the ranks when he showed he could consistently hit the three over the summer, and as a senior. He suddenly was a three level scorer, at 6’9”, not just a post player. That Freeman ended up 8th in the RSCI.

He’s very difficult to defend one on one. He’ll post up even size or smaller guys, or shoot over or drive around bigger guys.

He was getting more comfortable playing at this level when he was injured. I’m no less excited about him for his sophomore year than I was for his freshman year. His actual production was good, but his potential is still even better.

I think he should make a big jump his sophomore year. I’m not convinced he wasn’t hurt the entire season. He looked gimpy running all year. I do hope he plays more inside and not just float around the perimeter. He’s being surrounded by guys who should play well off him. I hope he’s spending some time in the weight room. He needs to add 15-20 pounds in the off season.
