Shafer Press Conference

As I said in the other presser thread, I couldn't even get through the whole thing. It was cringe-worthy. Just a total embarrassment.

The next shoe to drop won't be coaches being fired...it will be all those 2015 recruits exploring other options. Who'd sign on the dotted line to play in this quagmire?

He's a hot head and wears his emotions on his sleeve, not good for a construction super or football coach who has to give pressers. Oh well.

I don't think there's any recruits id cringe over losing. The best one already split. But everyone calling for heads doesn't help either.

should have hired hackett instead
Zach Allen would still be here if we had. Obviously there's no telling if he'd have actually been good, but at least there'd be another option to look at for QB.

By the way - I always felt like if we had hired Hackett, we could have retained Shafer as DC. Obviously the reverse was never, ever an option.

Really? The real world has problems, ISIS is chopping heads off? Basically saying it's just a game relax everyone. or that's how I took it. Definitely not what I wanted to hear right now. Just more of the same stuff. Come up with something new, but that's not what the fanbase wants to hear.
He dug his own grave tonight with that comment. Almost as bad as "GET A LIFE" and maybe worse in some ways

Shafer has been begging fans since he got the job to pack the dome, support the team, invest in SU football. But when they lose he takes they, hey its only a game and there are more important things in the world like ISIS. Get the heck outta here with that talk. Embarrassing for a head coach to say that after a loss. He isn't head coach material. The play on the field proves his. This comment proves it. Time for him to go. It's just not working out

I hope I feel as level headed as you do tomorrow. I just don't think this staff has what it takes.

He sounds resigned to his fate, to be honest.

i didn't see it... but if you are correct, that pisses me off. shafer is the guy for this team. i am certain of it. he needs to know it and act it.

Just wondering where we go from here...For the sake of our program we need to make a splash hire and actually pay for it or we will continue to be a middle of the road program.

I wanted to believe Shafer was the guy. I love Shafer, and he's a guy I'd happily have my son play for...but I'm not sure he's a head coach. He needs to have the balls to make changes to his staff. If he can't do that...well, he's not the guy.

Strickland, Conway and Henderson are all big time guys that we need to hold onto. Strickland in particular is a potential difference maker, IMO.

Middle of the road program? Lol

I think at this point we need to hold all of our recruits. We can't afford to start from scratch, should a change come.

I like Shafer, but that press conference really bothered me. I was pi$$ed leaving the game, and that was the absolute last thing I wanted to hear. He was basically saying it's just a game, everyone relax. Maybe if I wasn't just coming off an expensive trip to NYC where I got home at 530am, but that wasn't the time for those comments.

"Man I could come out here and tell you that heads are gonna roll, but what are we, ISIS? How about those guys, huh?"

Okay, that's not what he said, but it's closer than it ever should be.
If loving you is wrong - I don't want to be right.

Get a life (and I suppose he'd be right in the grand scheme of things). Sadly I don't attend or tune in to watch the grand scheme of things.

I agree. And if its "JUST A GAME" and ISIS is so damn important, then resign as head coach of SU football sign up for the Army and go fight ISIS!

I had multiple season tickets for 30+ years, I gave them up 2 years ago. I still go to all the home games just get freebies from work or buy em for $10 off the street just to get in the door. With comments like this though and "get a life" from a decade back how anyone in this town invests money in season tickets and puts their heart into this program is a little beyond me at this point. If the head coach views it as "just a game" and "not important" in the big picture of life why should any of us care or keep investing hard earned money and time?

I will keep investing the time and go to the games, I mean for me why not its almost free at this point. But I won't be investing much if any money any time int he near future to this football program. I see no reason too, nobody seems to care except for a small vocal minority of die-hard fans which is getting smaller by the year

Was "get a life" the brainchild of Crouthamel? I forget.

I believe it was Buzz Shaw, wasn't it? Or was it Jake? It was from that era, just can't recall which one said it.
