Was "get a life" the brainchild of Crouthamel? I forget.

He should have been more dejected about Hunt's playing prior to the injury. Is it possible that Shafer was so dejected because Hunt's injury is pretty serious?

I don't think it was "get a life" or "it's only a game at all. I think he felt awful, was counting his blessings and had no other wisdom to offer.I like Shafer, but that press conference really bothered me. I was pi$$ed leaving the game, and that was the absolute last thing I wanted to hear. He was basically saying it's just a game, everyone relax. Maybe if I wasn't just coming off an expensive trip to NYC where I got home at 530am, but that wasn't the time for those comments.
It wouldn't surprise me if there was a hairline fracture. It looked like a gruesome ankle injury. I was shocked he came back in. He had no support under him when he tried to push off after coming back in. It looked like a very bad sprain at best.
As soon as we have 6 losses.Honestly, I hope that Hunt is healthy, and I respect his toughness and his story...
But serious question. If the season continues to get away from us, as we probably all expect will happen...at what point does the staff start playing for the future and realizing that maybe the future isn't Hunt? Or since he's only a junior, does that mean they'll remain convinced he's the future and keep Long, or Wilson, or Kimble on the bench?
God I wish that Edouard was here.

I think that there's still hope for HCSS. He just needs to end the nepotism NOW. I don't care if the guy feels like your brother. If he can't recruit or coach, he doesn't belong on the frigging coaching staff. We aren't Kent state, Miami (Ohio), directional Michigan, Akron, or any of those other MAC schools that nobody cares about. We have a proud history, and I, for one, would like to see it continue.
We have the facilities, school, money, conference affiliation, and history. We just don't have the coaches. If we get the right coaches, we will get wins. If we get wins, we will get recruits and more fans. If we get more fans and recruits, we will get more money and wins, which will help us get better facilities, recruits, and fan support. It's a vicious circle, and it really is that simple.
I agree with this. There is no way that press Conf could have gone well.I don't think it was "get a life" or "it's only a game at all. I think he felt awful, was counting his blessings and had no other wisdom to offer.
It was Buzz, as others have said. I think Jake came up with the "One horse town" zinger. Was "get a life" the brainchild of Crouthamel? I forget.
Then he shoulda stood up & said that instead of patronizing fans w/ extraneous nonsense.I agree with this. There is no way that press Conf could have gone well.
He was embarrassed and mad as **k and you can't expect him to give you quality quotes when he's in that state.
It will be 15 years ago next month, and the 2 comments are miles apart in magnitude and consequence. Shafer's comment is old news tomorrow. I know 2 or 3 people that haven't been back to the dome since that comment.Yep! This was as bad if not worse than the "GET A LIFE" comment from a decade or so ago
I don't think Shafer's comment will be old news and just go away as quick as you think. I think that will linger all year long in this city and if they have a really bad year it will be mentioned constantlyIt will be 15 years ago next month, and the 2 comments are miles apart in magnitude and consequence. Shafer's comment is old news tomorrow. I know 5 or 6 people that haven't been back to the dome since that comment.
PS. They're idiots for never coming back but thats how nasty they took that infamous remark.
Anybody have on hand our home record in the past 15 years and our +/- at home over that time period?PS. They're idiots for never coming back but thats how nasty they took that infamous remark.
I won't get into if they are "idiots" or not...but its safe to say they haven't missed much! lolAnybody have on hand our home record in the past 15 years and our +/- at home over that time period?
Really feels to me like we lay A LOT of eggs at home. Those people that never came back... might not be idiots.
I agree if our year continues south the comments will stay in the spotlightI don't think Shafer's comment will be old news and just go away as quick as you think. I think that will linger all year long in this city and if they have a really bad year it will be mentioned constantly
P.S...I know a few people who haven't returned to the Dome since that comment 15 years ago as well.
Were we prepared to pay him? I suspect the endgame of that negotiation would have reinforced the effects of the cheapness. Can you imagine where we'd be if Oregon hadn't promoted Kelly, and we'd somehow been able to wrangle him away?
Where's Doc Brown with his DeLorean when you need him...
P.S...I know a few people who haven't returned to the Dome since that comment 15 years ago as well.
I don't know what happened, I don't get it either, but there are people around here that are very disenfranchised from the program right now, and for a long time. I remember when we totally sucked, there were people around here that reveled in it, and still do. I can think of some reasons why, maybe one of them would be that the SU students and alums think Syracuse is a hole, and that all townies are idiots.Even though we're now 2 chancellors removed from the guy?
I'll never understand people and their sensitivities. You can't honestly say you were ever really a fan of SU football if that comment from a guy long gone still bothers you enough 15 years later to keep you away.
