Let's also consider Cooney's learning curve is still on the upward arc. A year and a half ago, he was in HS.

I think he was red-shirting then.
;)

Huh? Follow the threads much?

The pay side we have a hater tracker.
Which threads exactly are you following?

I've had lower expectations for Cooney than some. Guilty as charged on that one. But that is worlds apart from not being a fan.

This is really simple.

Saying that C.J. "Thickburger" Fair is averaging 2.9 turnovers per game is not a criticism.

Saying that a 1 to 2 assist to turnover ratio is terrible from your senior leader is a criticism.

Saying that Coleman is a 50% free throw shooter is not a criticism.

Saying that Coleman is a bad free shooter is a criticism.

Saying that Buss Patterson has taken 25 shots in 49 minutes of play is not a criticism.

Saying that Patterson chucks it up as soon as he gets in to the game is a criticism.

Some folks on the board are so eager to defend Cooney that they feel the need to respond to things that aren't criticisms as though they are criticisms.

Let's break it down -

Title of the post: Shaky Potatoes Tracker (not a criticism to be found in the title)

Post: After today's game against Pitt (not a criticism), Cooney has now made 11 of 45 three point attempts (not a criticism), a .244 clip (not a criticism), in ACC play (not a criticism).

On the season he is making 41% of his three point attempts (not a criticism).

And then we got to enjoy reading a bunch of posts that must have been in response to something else, since they all gave various defenses for Cooney. Because, remember, my post didn't have a single criticism of Cooney. I guess people want to believe that the mere existence of a post, that doesn't contain a single criticism, actually becomes a criticism thanks to its very existence.

I'm really surprised and a little disappointed that our board is so sensitive and irrational in this case.
Fair enough- and you are correct in assuming that some responses are based on the numerous post-game "immediate reaction" threads that look to focus on every negative aspect of Cooney's game.
Look, personally I'm not a Cooney apologist but its fascinating to read some of the disproportionate responses to his play. As a long-term fan its just another reminder of some fan's tendency to dismiss players outright, and only point out the bad aspects of whatever they're doing. Its the rinse and repeat M.O. that we've seen with numerous players over the years; "This guy (fill-in-the-blank), is a waste of a scholarship. He can't (fill-in-the-blank), and (fill-in-the--blank), and is just (fill-in-the-blank). He'll never amount to anything"!
As Cooney has emerged as a lightening rod, there have been folks on this board who are invisible whenever he hits 5-8 threes and we blow someone out. But like a bad case of foot fungus, they can't wait to pipe up when he has a bad shooting day, regardless of what else he did or that game's outcome...which I'll hasten to add, have all been W's.
Nothing more irritating than some annoying grenade-tosser who's looking for every opportunity to pounce on the team. Obviously, that doesn't appear to be your intention with this thread, but some of us are a bit sensitive in that regard. JMHO

So UNC, BC Miami, VT, and Pitt are more athletic than Baylor, nova, St. John's, cal, and Indiana? It's not really an opinion that our ooc has been the stronger part of our schedule.

Yep, As of today our OOC schedule has been tougher.
