I wondered (previously) if that was legal when under center.
Also, why not fake trying to draw off sides, then have QB start waking toward sideline, looking at ref like he wants a TO before the play clock expires, then snap to the back.

UVa tried that. The QB started to walk toward the WRs like he was calling another play and the center snapped it to the RB.

McNabb, I think, did that on a two point conversion. He and the WR actually appeared to be arguing about where the WR should line up as Mc Nabb walked toward him. Ball snapped to back, pass to McNabb - two points!
 

This is smart lineup the QB under center but to the side enough for the ball to the RB and throw to a TE on the edge.
That’s outta the old double wing.
