Just got off the phone with IthacaAl who says Cornell was the Big's top choice and offered to pay their exit fee from the Ivy (which apparently is equal to one's endowment, who knew?). Discussions were held last night during the Cornell-Wisconsin basketball game and were set to continue this weekend in NY during the Cornell-Michigan hockey game. Talks fell apart in the early morning hours when Rutgers offered to pay Maryland's ACC exit fee and any/all of Penn State's upcoming legal obligations.

Damn, I was looking forward to a new football stadium...and basketball arena...and hockey palace.

I understand Al gave himself a concussion jumping for joy at news Rutgers was going to be offered a spot in the B1G. IMHO if you break it you own it.
