Because people are talking like he is actually in the conversation to replace Autry in the near future. If they were just complimenting his season that would be completely 100% fine. But people are here arguing that he could actually replace Autry and getting a bunch of likes suggesting it. If he was John Smith the 1st year coach at Eastern Southwestern Carolina taking some efficiency numbers from 300 to the high 100s, then nobody would have him on their radar, and they would be insulted if someone suggested he has done enough to be trusted with the cuse job in the near future.
We can show love and support for gmac starting his head coaching career, but if we are actually talking about replacing Autry in the near future, he should be treated like the complete nobody that he is, compared to other candidates. Nobody whose only head coaching experience is 1-2 years at Siena*** should anywhere close to the conversation.
Well, ironically, this nobody has more head coaching experience now than when Red was hired.
At any rate, nobody thinks, including myself, that Gerry will be hired to replace Red in the near term.
If the Red experiment fails, I would hope they pull out the checkbook and do a national search.
Now, I hope frankly that Gerry would be in the conversation say 5 years from now if we still need a head coach and if Gerry continues to improve as a head coach.
But I wont apologize for wishing at the time that Gerry was hired instead of Red.
I fervently believe that our program would be in a much better place now.
But that ship has sailed and the SS McNamara wont be docking in Syracuse again for at least 5, maybe 10 years. Assuming there is still mutual interest then.
But I enjoy watching Siena play, the effort, the never say die attitude. They are fun to watch.
It is in sharp contrast to watching SU most of this year which has been as entertaining as watching paint dry, or thinking they are finally going to turn the corner only to have the ball pulled away like Lucy in the old Peanuts cartoons.
