You don’t silence your haters and show you’re the right man for the job by dodging your challengers. Reds body of work speaks for itself. Nobody is going to judge his coaching abilities based on a single game at this point.
I think the upside is genuine interest and enthusiasm from the fan base - both die hards and casuals.
Love GMac but wouldn’t Siena playing a now open game with Colgate, who has won their own conference championships 4 years in a row, been to the NCAA’s, be a really great 2nd year test for Siena towards their own goal of winning the MAAC? SU has plenty of tests in their own schedule.

Your interests in this scenario are not the best interests of SU. The only ‘win’ for us would be winning by 20+ points, and then that’s not good for GMac.
Get back to playing St Bonaventure or Niagara, or Buffalo if you want NYS teams.
I get it, but the schedule needs to be filled out by *someone* and there will be plenty of teams that fit into the above category. It feels like the program is trying to make sure that those are no longer local teams, thus avoiding egg on their faces if an upset occurs. Like they anticipate a loss to Drexel or Purdue-Fort Wayne not resonating the same as a loss to Siena or UAlbany.
I really don’t think the reputational risk has anything to do with it at all. We need to make the tournament atleast. I think it has to do with scheduling that can help our NET. Also with revenue sharing, I’m sure there is a factor of making sure that we find cheaper buy games, so we can save that money for the players.

Red beat Colgate two years in a row after JB lost his last two to them. Cornell is of little concern either. You’re saying things just to hear yourself. SU would beat Siena by fifteen or more.
Red beat Colgate by a total of 6 points in two years in a Quad 3 and Quad 4 game. SU should shellack Siena but we’ll never know unless he agrees to play the game. Sorry but I haven’t seen a good explanation for avoiding it. Fans of both programs would eat the game up.
How do those teams not benefit us but rumored noncon opponent binghampton somehow does benefit us? Colgate (exciting coach; annual game dating back to 1902), Siena (GMAC), and LeMoyne (in town JV team) seem like far better options for an interesting game. Siena and Colgate are both projected to be much better than Binghampton and could even be Quad 3 wins as opposed to Quad 4 soup cans. The financial cost of the game is an interesting angle I didn’t consider but on the surface, it looks like Red is scheduling our soup cans games to not lose rather than playing better lower opponents in more interesting games. Just my .02
sort of right. The point is that we are not afraid of those teams but a loss to those teams would really hurt us. A win gets us next to nothing. You beat Colgate and Siena. A big so what in any area other than upstate NY. And let's be real, if G-mac wasn't at Siena, no one would care if we played them or didn't.
Let's first get the program back where it belongs top 10 program. Then we can go back to playing all you name it rinky dink schools in NYS.
The thing is, we shouldn't be bad enough that them beating us is even a consideration. If we schedule them, it should be scheduling a W.
We have to deal with what is. Not what should be.
Again, they will still need some teams like that to round out the schedule. They might as well be local, and historically they have been.
If "what is" is that we have to think about scheduling in a way where we have to consider how a loss to Siena impacts our chances of making the tournament, then I don't care if we make the tournament.
