No update on Peter Carey, but hope he is ok.
I get it, but the schedule needs to be filled out by *someone* and there will be plenty of teams that fit into the above category. It feels like the program is trying to make sure that those are no longer local teams, thus avoiding egg on their faces if an upset occurs. Like they anticipate a loss to Drexel or Purdue-Fort Wayne not resonating the same as a loss to Siena or UAlbany.First, we aren't afraid to play Siena. Or Colgate. Or Lemoyne. But the question for us is how this benefits us. They don't. They add nothing to our SOS. They are good enough that if they beat us, it hurts and if we win, it doesn't help. Exactly the type of team you want to avoid.
I really don’t think the reputational risk has anything to do with it at all. We need to make the tournament atleast. I think it has to do with scheduling that can help our NET. Also with revenue sharing, I’m sure there is a factor of making sure that we find cheaper buy games, so we can save that money for the players.I get it, but the schedule needs to be filled out by *someone* and there will be plenty of teams that fit into the above category. And even at that pointSome won’t be happy unless we play every D1 NY team plus the BE.
Plus all the D 2's and SUNYAC schools. And even at that point
Red beat Colgate two years in a row after JB lost his last two to them. Cornell is of little concern either. You’re saying things just to hear yourself. SU would beat Siena by fifteen or more.Red’s a coward. Playing Siena would generate eyeballs and buzz in the capital region. It would help Gerry’s program by giving them a marquee game. Have we fallen that much that we are scared of a buy game with little ole Siena? He’s already ditched Colgate and Cornell. Red’s scared to lose these games. Playing Binghamton isn’t going to build our brand. Adopt the Izzo mindset. Any team. Any place. Credit to Gerry for needling Red and the school via the press
Red beat Colgate by a total of 6 points in two years in a Quad 3 and Quad 4 game. SU should shellack Siena but we’ll never know unless he agrees to play the game. Sorry but I haven’t seen a good explanation for avoiding it. Fans of both programs would eat the game up.Red beat Colgate two years in a row after JB lost his last two to them. How do those teams not benefit us but rumored noncon opponent binghampton somehow does benefit us? Colgate (exciting coach; annual game dating back to 1902), Siena (GMAC), and LeMoyne (in town JV team) seem like far better options for an interesting game. Siena and Colgate are both projected to be much better than Binghampton and could even be Quad 3 wins as opposed to Quad 4 soup cans. The financial cost of the game is an interesting angle I didn’t consider but on the surface, it looks like Red is scheduling our soup cans games to not lose rather than playing better lower opponents in more interesting games. sort of right. The point is that we are not afraid of those teams but a loss to those teams would really hurt us. A win gets us next to nothing. You beat Colgate and Siena. A big so what in any area other than upstate NY. And let's be real, if G-mac wasn't at Siena, no one would care if we played them or didn't.How do those teams not benefit us but rumored noncon opponent binghampton somehow does benefit us? Let's first get the program back where it belongs top 10 program. Then we can go back to playing all you name it rinky dink schools in NYS.sort of right. A big so what in any area other than upstate NY. And let's be real, if G-mac wasn't at Siena, no one would care if we played them or didn't.
The thing is, we shouldn't be bad enough that them beating us is even a consideration. If we schedule them, it should be scheduling a W.First, we aren't afraid to play Siena. Or Colgate. Or Lemoyne. We have to deal with what is. Not what should be.The thing is, we shouldn't be bad enough that them beating us is even a consideration. If we schedule them, it should be scheduling a W.
Again, they will still need some teams like that to round out the schedule. They might as well be local, and historically they have been.sort of right. If "what is" is that we have to think about scheduling in a way where we have to consider how a loss to Siena impacts our chances of making the tournament, then I don't care if we make the tournament. We have to deal with what is. Not what should be.
I’m really not even considering how a game like that would affect our tournament hopes. I don’t think SU needs a scenario where GMac either beats Red or it’s a close contest (with far less ‘resources’) and people start (continue) the conversation about why it should have been GMac succeeding JB. How much would SU have to win by to nullify that aspect of speculation? If "what is" is that we have to think about scheduling in a way where we have to consider how a loss to Siena impacts our chances of making the tournament, then I don't care if we make the tournament.
I'm sick of this discussion about what we need to do to squeak into the tournament. We should be discussing what seed we think we should be, not whether we'll be on the right side of the bubble.

Which is a bit weird, right? We haven't played Siena in 20 years.
Don't get me wrong. I think we should play LeMoyne, Cornell and Colgate. But I'm not going to get worked up about not playing them. I'm sure there are things I don't know about how much we pay those schools to play us.Again, they will still need some teams like that to round out the schedule. They might as well be local, and historically they have been.
Then if that's the case, we wasted our time bringing Red back. GMac did a great job rebuilding Siena last year, but they lost the only power conference game they played to Xavier 80-55. Personally, I don't care if we play Siena or not, but if we're scared of that being a loss, what are we even doing? We have to deal with what is. Not what should be.
