Ready for what? It's probably going to be Hodgson. I will support him to the end. But man is this board and people in general missing the boat on Gerry. I don't care what level of Division 1 basketball you are coaching. If you take a team from 6 wins to 20 in a short amount of time...you are the goods. My only question with Gerry is his plan for a staff and how many relationships and contacts he has to help him in getting top players to come here. And I'm not saying he doesn't but if that's your argument, I get it. But to say he isn't ready to coach at a P4 level??? Wrong...he's ready.
Ok, I'm done.Ready for what?
Ready to get hired at a P4 job? Maybe.
But ready to succeed? Way too soon.
Pitt can’t afford Capel’s buyout.I’m not sure that Shertz is not part of the mix. There’s a few national pundits that keep bringing him up for the Syracuse job. Some are pretty credible. Hearing Calhoun might be in play at Pitt too.
You think you can just walk away from this?Ok, I'm done.
Lets all try to get behind him and wish him all the best in winning the MAAC tournament.I feel like we say the same stuff over and over again when Gerry gets brought up -- at this point I think theres 97% agreement on the following
1. Hiring Red over Gerry was a mistake
2. Gerry is a promising young coach
3. Gerry needs more seasoning to jump straight into a job like Syracuse
4. In a future world Gerry could be a great coach of our beloved Orange
5. After a decade of irrelevance its time to go outside the SU "family"
I feel like we're all mostly aligned but we keep spinning up conversation about this. Its a message board so obviously have at it but I think we're all largely in agreement. Wishing the best for Gerry. Its just now is not the time.
Actually 4 wins. It's probably going to be Hodgson. I will support him to the end. But man is this board and people in general missing the boat on Gerry. I find it ironic Hillary is all ways wearing blue dresses.
Didn't realize you had the crystal ball on who the " sure thing" is. Are you saying there is no reason at all to be skeptical on Hodgson or any other candidate? Like I said, I'm good with Hodgson. Looks like he could be a good hire. But the total lack of confidence in Gerry's ability to move up now is laughable. You think you can just walk away from this?
You want to make the case that he's on a good trajectory and projects to improve as a coach and be capable of success at a higher profile job, that's reasonable.
Saying we're potentially missing on him RIGHT NOW given the state of the program and his limited track record?
Give him time. If that time is now for another P4 program we'll that's just swell, but don't act like it's unreasonable to be skeptical that 1) he'd be a serious candidate and 2) that it's a sure thing he excels.
If it was laughable, why isn't he a popular candidate for any other big-time gig? To get a clear picture where he stands at this point, you have to put your bias aside and take a look at what the rest of the world thinks.Didn't realize you had the crystal ball on who the " sure thing" is. I will say this.
If Gerry pulls off the improbable and gets Siena to the NCAAT, he will jump up to the top of a lot of lists for schools looking for a new coach.
Taking a team to the NCAAT in two years after inheriting a 4 win program and a team that hasn't made the NCAAT since 2010 would be a huge achievement.
The coverage he and Siena would get would be massive.
The Albany Times Union reports: “Chandler’s paperwork to the NCAA was sent in, but never finalized. The person on his case took a new job and didn’t complete it. As a result, his name won’t show up when NCAA rosters come out. It’s a problem.
The problem is Siena sent in the waiver paperwork, but it was never followed through at the next level. Siena is in the wrong state. Down South s9me judge would push it through. The Albany Times Union reports: “
Siena incorrectly applied the waiver to Chandler, according to the NCAA, even though his eligibility clock had expired.
“(Chandler) contends he is eligible under the ‘Pavia Waiver’ issued following Pavia,” the NCAA said. “However, that waiver applies only to student-athletes who, like Mr. Pavia, had years remaining on their eligibility clock — not to Plaintiff, who had exhausted both his four seasons of competition and his five years of eligibility. Siena misapplied the waiver and is subject to potential penalties if it fails to withhold Plaintiff from competition.”
The NYS Supreme Court agreed with the NCAA decision and ruled against Siena.
Will the NCAA take away the wins in games in which he played? The Albany Times Union reports: “

I wouldn't think so since Siena removed him from games once they heard from the NCAA.Will the NCAA take away the wins in games in which he played?
They will probably take them away from SU.I wouldn't think so since Siena removed him from games once they heard from the NCAA.
It is not their fault nobody from the NCAA could be bothered to look it over until now.
No doubt because Siena isnt exactly a top tier program.
Unfortunately, without him, it will be close to impossible to win this tournament.
He was their biggest rebounder I believe.
He needs more time to gain experience and figure things out and have some success. If Hodgson or Schertz doesn’t work out or moves onto a blue blood, and GMac is doing well at Siena or an A-10 program at that time, then we can look to him as the next head coach. He needs more seasoning.I definitely think he'd be an upgrade over Red, just not as big as others mentioned here. At least not at this time. He was 13-7 in the MAAC. That's decent, but not amazing.
Hiring Red was clearly a mistake. It’s not a given that hiring Gerry would have been less of a mistake.1. Hiring Red over Gerry was a mistake
Thanks to Lyke lol.Pitt can’t afford Capel’s buyout.
Yes, we all know nobody wanted Gerry as coach. Was it a given that it would have been more of a mistake? Never ceases to amaze how convinced people were ,and are ,that McNamara would be a failure here.Hiring Red was clearly a mistake. It’s not a given that hiring Gerry would have been less of a mistake.
