Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

I think it is fair to say- given the quality of Reds last 3 years as head coach and Gerry’s last 2 years as head coach- that Gerry has proven to have the better coaching ability, better able to manage his players and better able to establish a winning culture.

And not for nothing- Reds only team with a winning record still had Gerry as an assistant.

No one knows if Gerry would have had us preparing already for the NCAAT, but I feel confident he would have led the team to a few more wins and would have installed an accountable, fight to the end culture.

Frankly, Red set the bar extremely low.
Very few coaching hires could have been as bad as Red.

Would Gerry have been better than Red? It seems so. Would he have been good enough for us? That's hard to say. Sometimes coaching is like quarterbacking. Some guys just have "it" and others don't. Gerry may have "it."

Given where we had slipped the last few years under JB, the right move was a reset with a more proven guy. That's even more the case now.

You never want to be the guy after the guy.

Doty is not a 3 point shooter. Their MAAC conference game is being played now Sloppy game. Siena up by 2. 16-14

Coyle having a good first half. Doty is quiet so far. Siena leading at the half 35-21.

i dont know how they win anything. they lose another player every other week. they've lost their 2 best bigs, another starter and a rotation player.

I have no data to back this up, but my hypothesis is that there is far less delta, dispersion, difference, etc... in the rosters at the low-major level compared to the high major level. These teams are primarily built with 1 & 2 star kids, and winning often comes down to effective coaching, team cohesion and finding the outlier player(s) who belong in the higher tiers.

At the P5 levels, an injury to a starter (especially a player like Toppin or Wilson) could be devastating. But at the lower tiers, it's more like dealing with replacement level players. Someone goes down, it's next man up.

That's my theory at least.

Gerry really connects with the kids and gets them to play hard.
If they could just have a season without losing so many players.

After having come from the Dome and watching the train wreck our team has become, it is nice to see a team that plays really hard and a coach who seems to care a lot.
So refreshing!

Do they have to play tomorrow? I think they are a bit beat up besides exhausted.
