Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

Siena to the title game Tuesday on ESPN2.
Whoever wins gets to the NCAAT.
Who would have thought when GMAC took over a 4 win team that he would make the NCAAT before SU.
Still has to win but has a damn good shot at it!
Well sure at that level but he’d be over his head with a P4 job.

Tuesday night 9pm ESPN2 v. Merrimack, who won the conference in the regular season and beat Siena twice (once in OT).

Siena is down to 7 scholarship players. The starters played all 20 minutes of the 2nd half.
Yep hard to believe they have accomplished so much with so few players,

Just love the effort and it is obvious these players love playing together.
And in Doty and Shoats they have 2 on court leaders.
Shout out to Red - the intangibles really do matter.
I pray to God our next head coach realizes that.

Fun fact on Doty - he is 20 of 21 from the free throw line in the tournament

If Gmac gets Siena to the dance and they win a few games we seriously think Syracuse won’t hire him?

I think the chances of Gerry being hired at SU this year are about the same as SU winning the ACC tournament.
I personally think Gerry will become a great coach one day, and what he has accomplished at Siena already is pretty darn impressive but, for now, Red has poisoned the well for any member of the Boeheim tree.
I do think if he advances to the NCAAT, there will be some interest out there.
Providence, BC both are on life support like Siena was.

MAAC or not, he took a 4 win team to 22 wins in only 2 years.
Took them to their first title game in 9 years and possibly first trip to NCAAT in 16 years.
And has had only 7 scholarship players in the last 4 games.

His teams fight to win and play for each other.
And their defense can be smothering.
And they also understand what ball movement is.

But most of all, Gerry found a way to maximize the talent that he had available.
If Red could only do that, SU would be preparing for the NCAAT.

It’ll feel like coughlin at bc if he goes to pc or bc and succeeds. It will look bad on JW legacy passing on him initially.

He def should get a look and hear his pitch. Not sure why one wouldn’t do that. Be crazy lack of due diligence otherwise
