Signing Day Press Conference | 4:25 PM

That statement feels good now, fresh off the Miami upset. It will only age well if we overachieve next season, pull off a few upsets. Hopefully we do.

To me, it's a shuck & jive way to explain away not getting more 4 stars.
Agree with this. I think as the program gets better and thought of, the kids that commit as 3 stars will have a better shot of becoming 4 stars just by the connection.

But the comment of we will make them 4stars was great. Just wish they finished that statement with, we scoured the internet, reached out to hs coaches to find the most athletic, under developed players they knew in the area with unbelievable measureables that we can develop as coaches and in the weight room.

For anyone who hasn't watched, starting at the 10 minute mark there's good stories about recruiting the Kerr brothers, Lawrence, McFadden, Hawn, and Dudley.

I'm slightly embarrassed to say I didn't know there were Kerr twins. I thought since the current freshman had been added late, that it was just the same one and the recruiting sites hadn't fixed the glitch.

I care. I thought the press conference was excellent. I enjoyed seeing the people who are grinding away behind the scenes. Coach Fran is an excellent recruiter, but he can’t do it by himself. These guys are an extension of Coach Fran.

Aaron Mannicci is one of Coach Fran’s right hand men. Aaron came from Georgia with Fran, literally. I remember seeing him get off the plane with Fran and his family when Fran got here a year ago. And you can see Aaron standing close to Coach Fran on the sidelines during games.

Nate McNeal and Coach Fran were both at Temple in 2019. Nate was successful improving the recruiting at Illinois before Fran brought him to Syracuse.

Coach Fran is a relationship guy. He is wise to surround himself with people he trusts. Aaron and Nate are two of those people. The other guys are all grinders and are learning from some of the best. We are fortunate to have this team working behind the scenes. Syracuse has never had this many quality recruiting, scouting analysts behind the scenes. Kudos to JW for improving the budget so we could build this recruiting team.

I enjoyed hearing the recruiting stories. Kerr certainly was a good find. I hope his brother does as well.

There are places across the country where the ranking services will raise a player’s ranking when certain schools offer a player (Alabama and USC come to mind). I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next few years if a player’s ranking gets a bump when Syracuse offers a kid. These guys do their own evaluations and ranking services may start to follow them.

Enjoy the ride.

Last paragraph is very true.

Also empowering people is a great way to make them feel appreciated and wanted. When have you seen a Shady assistant say anything? Even here Dino and Marrone never wanted any message other than their‘s from anyone. And didn’t want our legends around the program either. To me that screams both authoritarian and insecure. Building a “team” includes the coaches.

in business most people dont leave a job for more money, they leave because they don’t fell appreciated.

love what Fran is doing.

With all due respect, nobody cares about what the GM of the football program has to say about the recruits.

It only matters what the head coach says. Big miss by the SUAD. And I would guess with nearly 100% certainty, big miss by HCFB.

I'll add -- it looks absolutely ridiculous having 12 people up at two tables for a press conference.
See i completely disagree as these guys do a crap ton of work behind scenes and need some credit for there hard work and Fran putting them out there does that. I thought Fran did a great job with it and kudos to him for having the sack to do it.

The flip side is maybe these guys don't want to be in front of the camera answering questions.

Again, I'm playing devil's advocate and some may see it as me being uber negative. All I am saying is I'd personally rather hear from the head coach and that the vast majority of other big-time schools do it that way.

There’s nothing to say we won’t still hear from Fran about it soon enough as I’m sure someone will ask. Meanwhile this format gave the guys who worked their tails off on a nice class a great forum to talk about it.

Fran said he wants all his assistants to go on to Head Coaching jobs when they are ready.
So he's giving them the opportunity to see what it's like, and preparing them for that step.
That's good coaching and preparing them for the future.

You are not playing Devil’s advocate. This is what you directly said:

“…nobody cares about what the GM of the football program has to say about the recruits.

Hey, it's called a hot take. Everyone does it once in a while. Let's let it go and move on.
BTW, the recruiting staff were a blast to listen to.

Thanks, I am aware, but when you quadruple down, their may be extended feedback.

Well said. It's such an impressive crew of recruiters. It ensures we can withstand the loss of folks too as they move up in their career.

Fran seems to seek out guys who are a certain type of recruiter too. Stack, while not an official recruiter, is a great example. Same with Devin Redd, who is an analyst. We've never had this much depth on our staff before and they're all very personable and capable of selling the program. It makes such a difference.

And the fact that he empowers them to go out and shine -- it's awesome. So many coaches are afraid of letting people see things or afraid of losing their staff. Fran wants them all to do well -- that sort of approach will pay dividends long term in my opinion.
