Signing Day Press Conference | 4:25 PM

How is asking him to take part in a press conference that every other head coach in our program’s history and the vast majority of major college football programs have “hating”? I said it was a miss. I still believe that. That’s my opinion.

The way this board handles even the slightest criticism of the new shiny thing is baffling. Fran did a good job his first year. He’s not perfect and can make mistakes too. And guess what - he’s going to make many of them, we all do.
Yes, because doing things just like every other program worked out so well in the past.

Grad transfers are already in the portal and can be contacted.
And there is a multitude of them already in the portal so you had better start keeping tabs on all of them too.
Tongue and cheek here, but thanks for the clarity.

I think it's fair to say you have a reputation for being rather negative over the years and that's fine. I've thought you made a lot of good points and agreed with them even if I don't like that they might be true. Criticism is fine.

But there have also been times when you've gone completely over the top and made some of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on this site, and not just this thread. We've just had our best season in years and you're completely freaking out over this press conference. And yes this many posts in a thread is freaking out.

Just a suggestion - pick your spots and more people might actually listen when you have criticisms

Go away, you've said enough, if your life is so miserable you can't enjoy simple things so be it.

For anyone who hasn't watched, starting at the 10 minute mark there's good stories about recruiting the Kerr brothers, Lawrence, McFadden, Hawn, and Dudley.

Why wouldn’t somebody who’s enough of a Cuse football fan to post here, take the few minutes to actually watch this - before making dumb criticisms about it?

Oh, right.

Anyway - I 144% agree - this was a very cool change o pace, hearing from all the guys who do the heavy lifting when it comes to crootin.

Several very interesting inside stories about how they found out about and/or landed certain kids.

With some of the notable hits on unranked / underrated kids in the last class (Watson, Kerr, etc)
Fran & Co have more than earned the latitude and deference to do things how they feel is best.

I’ll be keeping tabs on all of the transfers we pull from teams who have have their coach leave.

With all due respect, nobody cares about what the GM of the football program has to say about the recruits.

It only matters what the head coach says. Big miss by the SUAD. And I would guess with nearly 100% certainty, big miss by HCFB.

I'll add -- it looks absolutely ridiculous having 12 people up at two tables for a press conference.
I disagree.

At first I was confused why Fran wasn't there, but as I figured out it was intentional, I liked it.

Fresh voices.
You could feel the joy they have in their work.
It also gives a better sense of the type of boss Fran is, like maybe he's not a glory hound micromanager. As someone who has suffered under that type of boss, I appreciate it.

Also, don't need to hear Fran all the time.

“We’ll make them 4-stars when they get here.”

Biased recruiting services be damned!! Love the confidence and attitude!
That statement feels good now, fresh off the Miami upset. It will only age well if we overachieve next season, pull off a few upsets. Hopefully we do.

To me, it's a shuck & jive way to explain away not getting more 4 stars.

This is a good point about the recruiting rankings.

Watson was one of our best players on defense while upsetting the #6 team in the country and Kerr started at corner. The hit rate is obviously higher with 5-starts... But there are plenty of under ranked kids who can play... Watson was committed to Kent State 0-12 this time last year.

I haven't seen this anywhere yet. SU signing day press conference:

2 minutes in, just thought the question 'can you win that way?' was weasely. Maybe it was the tone & unintentional, but felt like I was listening to my father in law 'helping' me w a home handyman project asking me if I knew what I was doing. Dude is lucky Fran wasn't there to answer the question.

Come on.
What I don't understand in all this is what value has been lost. If this is a "big miss" - why? To what end? For whose benefit? I disagree with the premise at this point. I don't think anything measurable and valuable has been "missed".

I used to like reading about the accounts of the old sessions - like Eddie O's first comments when he was hired and talked about the DL recruits he inherited - but BFD. Not measurable, not valuable.

I care. I thought the press conference was excellent. I enjoyed seeing the people who are grinding away behind the scenes. Coach Fran is an excellent recruiter, but he can’t do it by himself. These guys are an extension of Coach Fran.

Aaron Mannicci is one of Coach Fran’s right hand men. Aaron came from Georgia with Fran, literally. I remember seeing him get off the plane with Fran and his family when Fran got here a year ago. And you can see Aaron standing close to Coach Fran on the sidelines during games.

Nate McNeal and Coach Fran were both at Temple in 2019. Nate was successful improving the recruiting at Illinois before Fran brought him to Syracuse.

Coach Fran is a relationship guy. He is wise to surround himself with people he trusts. Aaron and Nate are two of those people. The other guys are all grinders and are learning from some of the best. We are fortunate to have this team working behind the scenes. Syracuse has never had this many quality recruiting, scouting analysts behind the scenes. Kudos to JW for improving the budget so we could build this recruiting team.

I enjoyed hearing the recruiting stories. Kerr certainly was a good find. I hope his brother does as well.

There are places across the country where the ranking services will raise a player’s ranking when certain schools offer a player (Alabama and USC come to mind). I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next few years if a player’s ranking gets a bump when Syracuse offers a kid. These guys do their own evaluations and ranking services may start to follow them.

Enjoy the ride.

Go Orange!

Thank you well put, Fran is always out grinding.

Stop. I was giving an opinion. Virtually every other big time program had a head coach press conference. That is my point. They also want to hear the opinion of the head coach. Maybe I am in the minority. That’s fine.
Every school doesn't have the #1 ranked recruiter in the nation as a coach either.

Forgot to mention, one of my favorite comments from the conference was that they wanted to own New York, and that they were combing every nook and cranny from the Southern Tier to the Canadian border.
That comment really confused some of the 'special' posters on the Boneyard. It doesn't take much to do that.

SU has a Signing Day Live Stream at 4:25

We are in good hands. These recruitniks are some knowledgeable and enthused Franshinistas. They've been w/Fran for a while and understand and embody his ethos.

While we fans cast our gaze at the Orange from afar, they seem to be on a job 24/7 doing all they can internally to buoy and improve the program. I might take a rest from fandom and set down my Orange tinted glasses for a while, but I don't think they do.

I've said it before; Fran earned the keys to a slumbering little program and he intends to bring it into the garage for an overhaul and then drive his sleek program cast in his image, to the highest heights.
