slight specific letdown about Babers era

i don't know why in the hell everyone was so excited about hiring babers if they wanted qbs to run around.
We've never been able to recruit elite lineman to protect a pocket passer. All of our best teams utilized a dual threat qb to mitigate line issues. Even last years o-line was probably “average” by ACC standards.

They should at least have a few designed runs for tommy like they did vs FSU last year. It’s critical that he takes the easy 5 yards when it’s there, especially if his receivers keep quitting on their routes.

Hey I've been meaning to ask you, been super curious for a while now - you know how a Francophile is a person that's like, really into France and French culture and stuff?

Does your handle mean French pizza?

you don't need elite lineman to spread the field and get the ball out. the mumme leach briles approach has worked at every central bumble*** state

don't you like how he bolded the syracuse only stuff. next year devito is going to break every single season passing record here and the glory days guys will shrug

Why next year, there are 11 games left in the season.

Username was supposed to be Franco'sPizza but that exceeded the char limit. I'm a fan of most things French if that matters.

ah stats are for losers, delicious

they can't run the ball well (stats how that but those are for losers) and they wisely went for it on 4th down when they knew FGs wouldn't cut it (of course those are stats too so lets ignore those

Millhouse,

What are your thoughts on the advanced metric QBR created by ESPN? It is supposed to provide a macro of the QB value (passing, running, value to plays, pull out "garbage time state", etc) and seems to do a good job if you look at the Top 10 overall through the past few seasons. Passer rating, as discussed herein, is antiquated imo.

I like it because it deals with added value of running/scrambling and passing together versus isolating them individually. I also believe that any position specific statistic is also heavily influenced by the unit as a whole and not just on the player.

Anyway, i know you're a pass it every down (including 4th down) guy but am interested in your thoughts on this statistical attempt to consolidate running/scrambling/sacks/passing into one metric. I know you like stats.

Statistically, TD has to small of a sample size to draw any conclusions at all about his ability and future success here so any attempt at this point is fruitless. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in comparison to ED and the value he added to the offense using a very different approach to the position.

I think it's too much of a black box, ever since they included some BS clutch factor that they've taken out, i just don't know if it's good or not.

I think it greatly overrates QB runs just based on how it sorts players. more so in the NFL but i just don't like not knowing what they're really measuring - i don't have enough trust

qb rating is antiquated for comparing across many years but i think it sorts out passers just fine if you're looking at an individual season. ANY/A at the football reference sites factors in sacks -they blame qbs for those and they have good evidence for why.

since it's a per pass stat, a good running qb and statue qb could have the same rating. it's a little easier for running QBs to have good efficiency because they're more likely to throw it when a guy is open. volume passers suffer a little. it usually sorts them ok.

You lost me.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Mac and P didn’t have much competition for those types of players. Now everyone recruits dual threat guys.

That’s all he is saying.
