slight specific letdown about Babers era

ok 28-7 is the only score that matters, not when he's down less than that or more than that

gotta remember who i'm dealing with here

Can you admit that he got off to a bad start? He played well after that. The question is why? Did he settle in and we can expect to see that type of play going forward? Or did falling behind by 21 change both the way he and MD played the rest of the game? We won’t know that answer really until the WMU game.

Even extending his stats out to 42-13 he was 11-17 164 yards 2 TDs 1 INT 1 Fumble. That is good if you ignore the turnovers.

you wondered if his numbers looked good because the game was out of hand so I gave you the numbers where they were down but where it wasn't out of hand

His stats pre 28-7 were not good. His stats pre 42-13 were acceptable. His stats after 49-13 were good. The stats are what they are.

DeVito is far from immobile, people act like he's slug. He'd look like Usain Bolt compared to Nassib. I'd like to know what he's being told when it comes to scrambling. Me thinks the coaches don't want him running because honestly, if he gets hurt we won't win another game.

i don't know why in the hell everyone was so excited about hiring babers if they wanted qbs to run around.

Fantastic post. He was truly a generational student athlete.

scramble all he wants but if WRS dont get open he is just going to throw it away or get hit. I do wonder about that hitch though when he is out of the pocket. We need to do a better job of getting into down and distances that allow him to be dictating the plays and not chasing 3rd and long. every time we have a good run and get a aggressive it fails and then 3rd and 2-5 we have no answer since we cant really run yet.

Hopefully its more about oline making mistakes and less about just not being good or strong enough to block well. Clemson is going to come after us so the Skill guys have to make plays since i dont expect a ton of time to throw.

Maybe it’s just me but we were all under the assumption we would be getting a serviceable OL as part of the throw it all over the field package. Minus that, having a mobile qb that can neutralize a bad OL and keep droves going is kinda nice.

I love your enthusiasm.

But we got mauled on both sides of the ball.

The QB rating data is pretty meaningless.

We got mauled but TD had what would ED’s 7th best game passing.

Meaningless? Lol.

His stats pre 28-7 were not good. His stats pre 42-13 were acceptable. His stats after 49-13 were good. The stats are what they are.

Indeed. If only we had other game tape showing him in a close game, passing his way to a victory

A good quick passing game can neutralize a bad OL too. Babers has shown he can scheme around OL trouble.

I think they’ll get better too.

Really?

One position is more difficult to fill than five?

That’s a tough argument
The NFL suggests one position is absolutely more difficult to fill than five.

It is early in the season and in his career. So it is difficult to determine how much of his production was overall improvement vs the game being out of hand. We won’t really know until the WMU. Glass half full people aren’t worried. Glass half empty have concerns.

Re: did he improve or was the game out of hand and that's why he played better...

I kinda don't care. Either way we want to see him play better. He did.

It's a step.

everyone's making it out like it was some sort of disastrous offensive performance and pining for the glory days of dungey masking warts and averaging fewer yards per play

geez louise, we had a tough time on 4th down trying to actually win when they could've kicked and lost by less

if you kick those 2 fgs, it's 26 points and 400 yards oh no heavens to betsy, where is cecil howard? gimme a break

His first half stats were better than the second half. And regardless of score, no defense eases off in the first half.

Really good NFL teams build from the OL.
The QB position is crucial but without a great OL, teams simply do not win.

Give me a great OL and a decent NFL QB and I will win games.
Dungey was a great college QB who was never going to play the position in the NFL.

And there are many who fit into Eric's category - Tim Tebow for one.

Syracuse University has never - never - had a consistently dominant OL - even when we were going to the Fiesta and Orange Bowls.

Hey, I hope you're right.

I hope we learned something on Saturday, I hope that our offense and defense will both develop over the next few weeks.

But, didn't find myself feeling anything positive about the offense as I made my way out of Maryland Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
I felt really beaten up.
Hopefully, things will be different this weekend.

The position in the NFL is quite different than the position in college football.

guys like Tebow go to florida

those days are done, other schools aren't as racist as they used to be.

I'm all for that.

And, I'm all for tempo - something we did not see on Saturday.

You lost me.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

Yeah, I've read a lot the last couple of days and I feel like you've kind of gone Trump here and invented a picture that isn't accurate. Are there some people who are saying dumb things about TD in posts, sure. Are there some more people wondering whether he really can get it done, sure. Are there some people wondering if ED or a dual threat QB would have been better with the way the OL played, sure. But you've invented the idea that everyone thinks this was a disastrous offensive performance and run with it. Nobody thinks the offensive numbers aren't good. Pretty much everyone agrees the defense was terrible. But it's a loss. So boo hoo that people are analyzing the game and asking questions. Jay Cutler had pretty cool stats in college too.

They were? Seem pretty even. Depending on the rating metric used the 2nd half was better.

16-21 76% 163 yards 1 TD 0 INT
12-18 66% 167 yards 2 TD 1 INT

tebow was a supernatural recruit. we're not getting him

we used to get good dual threat qbs because other school's fat stupid hillbillies in charge didn't think black guys were smart enough to play QB

it took about a hundred years too long for the hillbillies to figure it out but they did so now it's harder for SU to find dual threat QBs

dungey wasn't a big recruit and as good as he was , he was inefficient

all the years that we bemoaned the loss of vick, leach just plugged and played a zillion different ho hum qbs who could throw a little and knew where to go with the ball

That is where we're headed. The line needs to get better but it doesn't need to get incredible like the kind of dual threat QB we'd need to mask bad line play
