I went to Univ of Louisville-Gtown game at KFC Yum Center. Here are some thoughts from game as they relate to SU playing each of them later on.
-UofL: They are a spurt and up-and-down team. Can really turn it on, then have lots of What moments. Cuse will have to guard Siva closely...he clearly runs the team. Is explosive and aggressive, yet often tries to take it in ill-advisedly on the bigs. Fab will swat them away if he does. Kuric is their best and perhaps only true scorer from outside. Russ Smith is very streaky from outside. Deng is tough on inside, but our guys should be able to handle him. UofL can struggle to score, really not a great offensive team right now. They turn it up in last 4 minutes, if they did this throughout game (more consistent D), they'd be very dangerous. Overall, UofL has some excellent talent and has the ability to again beat the Cuse, especially if they start playing better later in season. However, watching them in person tonight, the Cuse has the potential to beat them twice this year as well, which may not have been the case in previous years.
-One thing I will say, not sure if anyone saw game on ESPN2 tonight since Cuse played at same time. If you did, not sure the crowd noise came through. But with UofL rallying late, the place was simply deafening! Cuse will have to maintain focus to play through the extreme noise. Got to give Gtown credit for doing so.
-Gtown: Got down early, but played within themselves and made a slow but steady comeback. They have some length and height on that team, more tall and lanky types. Good balance of scoring and they do have some shooters (made 7-11 from 3). Stark an excellent shooter or else just had a great night. They seemed to be more of a finesse team combined with some banging down low. Gtown will give the Cuse a game, but again with our emphasis on defense plus our depth and offensive production, Cuse again will have ability to beat them handily if they play well.
-Dicky V was an announcer, only could see his bald head from where I sat in student section. Also got to see Burr in action, same ole Burr. I was disappointed Gtown won, because it is Gtown, and I do like UofL when not playing SU.
