SMU Post Game

I was surprised to see John Wildhack sitting directly behind the bench. I’m guessing he’s trying to get a feel for how Red communicates with players and what his thoughts are during the game. I’m not convinced a coaching change is not made. It doesn’t seem likely, but if the pressure is mounting you never know. Twenty losses would be hard to explain to donors.
All he knows is tv so hopefully this means something

miss managed ad budgets why red will be back next year. syracuse won't take the debt from the buyouts.

He's likely not there randomly. We'll see if it has any significant effect.

Given the state of the program and how historically bad this yeatr is, JW is going to have to make a statement of intent on what needs to change and the expectations for Red next year (along with whatever musical chairs are done with assistants.)

The "Here's what has to happen next year or you're gone" list.

I would guess he's getting first hand intel for that.

More than anything I feel angry. I'm no basketball expert but when we can all see the train wreck happening but the coach can't it speaks a lot.

I thought it was already announced Red is safe.

Eh, we all knew this game was going to be a loss. SMU is a bubble team. How can anyone compete with that kind of talent?
happens all the time, coach p was safe until he wasn't.

We will have like 18 wins next year. Gives Wildhack his look how much we've improved lane to push thru year 4.

This is one of my biggest fears. Thats 2 more years, and by the time he's gone there's a chance (i pray we hit an homerun) we could struggle a bit under the new coach while they get their sea legs for a year or so. That could mean we'd have obviously the rest if this year, next year, then 2 more yrs potential of non ncaa tournament teams. I may not survive that.

Remember, a school doesn’t have to pay for the years left in his contract all at once. If he has two or three years left, you pay him one year at a time. I’d be shocked if Red makes more than $1.8 million a year. That’s more than Hop started at Washington.

The announcer (who was a total homer and not at all good) kept saying that Syracuse needs to figure out how to keep the lead. I looked at the floor and we had 2 Juniors (3 year starters) and 3 Seniors on the floor. If they have not figured out how to win the close ones in their next to last game of their careers...

What hurts is not having our Freshman on the floor more (Freeman, Moore and Maistorovich). This is where we lose out for next year, giving them this kind of experience (win or lose).

To me this has been a lost season in primarily this way.

I remember when we had underclassmen after successful senior laden teams. Those underclassmen had games under their belt and were able to utilize that experience.

I think that thinking that MELO plugs holes with money is foolish. He is a good businessman and will not funnel his money into this cause needlessly.

After seeing this team, I'm not certain we have a winning record next year either. Very sad to come to this realization.

I believe we need to bring the curtain back. We have sucked since it was removed. (anyone have the timeframe of the curtain demise?)Go C

GO CUSE

I think the main purpose of JW being there is that he was looking for money from Sam Romano. Sam played lax for us, and is the owner of Nick & Sam’s, where Lampkin and the team dined the evening before the game.

He uses the European push shot around the rim. When has he ever gone up strong with two hands? He might try dunking once in a while.
It looks to me like he’s got about a 10” vertical leap. I don’t think the result would have been different if he tried to dunk it there.

Don’t disagree. We were good on offense when the ball was moving and everyone getting touches. It opens up the floor and allows Carlos to find people (8 assists). When we get stagnant we just go iso with JJ and Davis pounding the floor trying to get in the lane. Too many touches last night for Davis when scoring only four points. You aren’t winning close games when a team scores at least one point in 15 of their final 16 possessions. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
Mr Starling, you can stop heaping all blame first on Eddie, and now Jyare, for the loss, when we all watched your son "Turnstile" take the lead role in stealing defeat from the jaws of victory.

To pay for the buyout I hope

They were fundraising in DFW this week. As you could see on TV, There was very little orange in Moody Coliseum last night.

I said it earlier in a different thread.
Most coaches like to take advantage of the hot hand.
Not SU and Red.
We like to ride the cold hand, and douse our hot shooting players by either denying them the opportunity to shoot or just yanking them out of the game.

In the Virginia Tech game after Cuffe scored his 13th point I told Buddy just watch - Red will either pull him or deny him the ball. And that’s what happened
And after Cuffe scored his 10th point today I said the same thing to Buddy.
And like magic out he goes.

I don’t know what Red has against Taylor and Cuffe but this is getting beyond ridiculous
Actual game performance wins games, not hopes and dreams and what might have been.
Not to mention play those who actually will defend.

This loss is all on Red and JJ.
Law of averages... the 5 for 5 guys is much more likely to miss than the 0 for 20 guy. Prove me wrong. /s

Can someone tell me what Autry does well? What is the reason we should believe in him?

Yet another blown lead and zero adjustments. Any serious program would fire Red. But we aren't a serious program anymore
He doesn't do anything well and there's no real reason anybody should believe in him.

And I doubt there's anyone claiming he does anything well or believes in him. We all have eyes and can see how bad this is.

We're just being gaslit by the AD/BOT, providing how unserious this all is.

Maybe he was trying to recruit some SMU boosters with the thought that helping Syracuse helps the ACC and in turn helps raise the profile of SMU.

Or maybe just wanted to go because we didn't drive the bus down to Dallas.

Get creative. Put together a Bobby Bonilla type deal and pay Red's buyout for the next 30 years. I, for one, would be happy to hear that we're still paying Red Autry $300k a year when I'm a senior citizen.
