Do we have a 7' center on the team again or not.

I know mine did...shocked we havent heard squat

Not shocked, I am fearful WHY we haven't heard squat.

Without Melo Elite 8 is the absolute ceiling IMHO.

This just in: Nerlens Noel is reclassifying and enrolling for the second semester. Also, I can fly and I often fight zombies when I'm not sleeping through a final exam or showing up for class naked.

I may have dreamed part of that, to be honest.

absolute ceiling?

do you really want me to list some of the past final 4 teams? maybe list the last 2 national champions?

why don't you list all of the JB teams that have made it past the Sweet 16 without a low post threat?

you can certainly argue 2003, possibly 1996

No, you can't. 1996? Otis Hill? I think he would be considered a "low post threat" didn't he score 34 from the Center position in a game once? (@Alabama)

2003 Had McForth, both of whom were 1000x more of a threat than Baye "fumbles" Keita.

Melo was the best low post option in the nation in 2003, and Hak was the team's 2nd leading scorer
Otis Hill was money at the low post in 1996

SU has never advanced beyond the round of 16 without a significant low post threat

Yeah, 2003 doesn't work at all. Melo and Hak were fantastic on the block.

this has to be the 1st compliment of mcforth's scoring threat abilities i have ever seen.

May not be a university hearing, may be NCAA clearinghouse appeal?

Ill give you Melo. Hak, on the other hand - i dont remember him having lost post moves AS A SOPHOMORE. please save the obvious responses about his career. Hak as a soph = kris jo as a sr. nothing more.

and its not like fabricio has any low post moves anyway.

If you notice it is more of a slight to Keita. But Forth got quite a few buckets. He was certainly a threat on a high-low that we needed to win 81-78, wasn't he?

Can Christmas be serviceable enough?

Anyway, like moqui says, we had the best low-post threat in the nation in 2003, so your point is still bunk.

What did we lose in Melo? he averages 7 points a game. 6.8 of which are handed to him.

answer - we lost his defense and physical nature.

we have never had a true offensive center. and we dont this year. comparing carmelo to the loss of melo is an absolute joke.

May not be a university hearing, may be NCAA clearinghouse appeal?

If this was our version of UCONN's Boatright situation then I'm pretty sure NCAA would have issued a statement to the school and we'd hear about it. This looks like an internal SU thing.

which is one reason why I'm not on the bandwagon (and haven't been all season long) even with Fab in the lineup.

Offensively, our best screener. Not even close. Did you see Keita trying to set picks? Pretty easy to dodge a toothpick, not so much a tree.

Defenseively, well, Cooley is a marginal player and he looked like Dwight Howard against Moose and Rak, didn't he?

Losing Melo for the year would be a death blow to our title hopes, make no mistake about that.

you are going back and forth here.

my only point - dont call him a low post threat. he isnt. and if he is lost for the year, its not as big as losing AO IMO. we still are a top 10 team.

as you can tell, i concur his defense is the biggest thing we are losing. and you bring up a good point about the ball screens.

Agreed about AO, for scoring. The ball screens is really of lot of it. We might be a top ten team without him, that will depend on Rakeem Christmas more than anything. But I really cannot see us beating another top 10 team with a great center without Melo's D or offensive presence (screens and backpicks). I hope I don't get a chance to be proven wrong, and if that chance comes I hope Rak and the team does prove me wrong, make no doubt about that.

I guess our definition of "low post threat" differs. Fab is not AO or Rick Jackson or even Terrance Roberts right now, but he was getting there, and I firmly believe that his curve was trending where he could be a low block entry pass spin dunk guy in March that would carry us to April 2. See my point now?
