So its been a few days, who are some names we are looking at for DC do you think?

I’m not sure where DT is getting his source from, but if that is indeed the case, this team is not messing around with this bowl game. Love that.

Really concerned. Great recruiter but feel we need a proven DC with 3-3-5 experience. Some of DBs highers from within have not gone great.
I may be wrong with my facts here but TW was only a DC for 1 year before coming to Syracuse. We don’t necessarily need a lifetime DC to step in. If Swag is a student of the game and understands every position and has been making Secondary calls (presumably he has), then maybe he can do the job.

Gotta be honest. This feels like DB at the end of a game or with TO decisions. You’ve known the guy for how long, he’s either ready to take the next step or he’s not. If he’s the right person to do the job then hire him. The bowl game thing is stupid.

He could do terrible in the bowl but still be the right guy or do great in the bowl but terrible as a long term solution.
Agree 100%. I'm not going to get too worked up since it's just a "report." but as I have mentioned before, Dino should already have a list of potential candidates for each major position on his staff, because you just never know what will happen.

Dino's been working with Nick since 2014. Seems like plenty of time to make an assessment whether he's on the list or not, rather than base it on one game.

Yep if true just Dino being Dino and doesn't have a definitive answer.

Beat me to it. Had been 1 year at ASU...

Speaks volumes that DB put the interim tag on him instead of what he did with OC position. The interim tag tells me DB thinks he isn’t ready.

I mean it's very possible that where the dude excels is recruiting and he's kind of at his ceiling right now as a position coach.

If it's not Swag there's a good chance we lose him. So the "not swag people," asks yourselves, would you rather give him a shot or lose him? He recruits well and has put a good amount of guys in the NFL. Miami already came sniffing once. They're not the only one or the last.

No one absent the team and Dino know if he’s a bonafide DC or not.

He’s loyal and the players seem to love him. Absolutely deserves first crack at this.

Beck situation was probably an immediate decision situation where Anae was taking him absent a pay raise/title

Either way you gotta trust the process here

If in fact Dino was anticipating White leaving he hopefully has his list of candidates. His lame duck status is going to make it difficult to hire a quality outsider. His best move is to keep it in house as it will help retain players and continuity is key for Dino as next year is make or break for him.

If people think we need an outside the program coach for basketball, then there’s no doubt our next defensive/coordinator needs to come from outside too.

Continuity is important and obviously keeping Monroe in Syracuse is as well. However, if they can find a candidate that they are looking for, a little rejuvenation and new blood every few years on each side of the ball isn’t the worst thing. It happened to the O last year. This year it’s the D’s turn.

Regardless of what happens, this program needs to recruit better (broken record). Still last in the conference IMO.

i gotta think this is Dino giving his longtime assistant the opportunity and a shot at being considered for permanent job

I mean, Dino has to know by now if he can do it or not?

I really really don't want the program to wait until after the bowl game to decide if they need a DC or not.

Go get they guy you want, or knight Swag as DC before signing day.

Let’s say Monroe takes DC, that means we have a $711k salary opening. How do we utilize those funds to makes this coaching staff better is my question! Hire two more assistants? Or pay a proven high end assistant with great recruiting a mega salary?

This 100%

Not sure that’s a fair assessment. Super Saiyan Tony White wouldn’t be able to stop Minn from running it down our throat this game. Maybe Dino knows that and using the PS Bowl as a measuring stick will give him an excuse to go get a more experienced coordinator.

That would be nuts even by Dino standards. I think he is crazy as is for not either naming Nick the permanent guy now or going out and getting a guy now, with that pesky signing day 10 days away and the portal in full gear

Sure. I feel like it’s a delicate situation though. Monroe is one of our best recruiters, who’s been loyal to Dino. It’s no secret the guy wants to be DC. Ultimately, I don’t think Dino thinks he’s the guy. Or at the very least comfortable gambling on 2 first year coordinators. Feels like it would be disrespectful to not give Monroe an “opportunity” to prove himself but in reality it seems like a dog and pony show. If Dino pulls the trigger on a new DC right away before giving Monroe a fair shake, does Monroe leave? Tough loss in terms of recruiting. We’ll see. Just my thoughts.
