So seriously what is Fran doing?

I would too but he’s really only handed the ball off.
He looks purposeful in the huddle & approaching the line. He seems to me like he has that factor, more of a commanding demeanor. Filardi, while undoubtedly a competitor, seems a couple steps back, like he’s figuring things out.

Carney looks great running the ball.

Carney looks fine handing the ball off.

Passing wise, in limited throws, we just don't know. But, there've been some reads, which Filardi & Pickie cannot do. & there've been some completions. Shorter ones. Nothing deep or too complicated, but we haven’t tried.

Gotta be more to the story
I’ve given this some thought and the only thing that makes any sense at all is that Carney has some type of elbow injury and shouldn’t be throwing. Any other reasoning is bananas.
it could very well be

If Carey is reasonably hurt, he shouldn't be playing.

Maybe none of our QBs are any good, and FB was right all along in that Collins is our next best solution? Unless you have a HOF QB, the most popular guy in town is always the backup. I obviously don't think that Collins looked great by any means, but when they opened up the offense a bit and spread things out, I think he looked serviceable at times.

A few years ago, when we had no QBs Dino and company got innovative and allowed us to be competitive. I'm not seeing anything here.

I know nothing about the man, but as a coach if he put players
on the field to respond to media and/or fan pressure, he doesn't
belong in that position. You are responsible for getting your players prepared and putting the most qualified personnel out there.

This may get ugly as a program when your best talent is mediocre,
but that's another issue entirely. As a group, offensively and defensively, mediocrity is a very generous adjective at this point.

You know the one thought that might make sense in the Carney situation different then my previous statements. Maybe Fran and Nixon were hoping to get to the end of the season with Rickie. That way they wouldn't have to play Luke, but things haven't worked out.
But now it has reached a point after last night it's too late to correct.

Is it really that hard to understand? Carney isn’t good. If he was better than Filardi, he would’ve played, but he’s not. End of story.
Collins is better than filardi. I wanted them to give someone else a chance to stink. But Collins is obviously better and didn't play so I'm not sure your story is accurate

I finally watched the debacle, or as much as I could handle (I was at a neighborhood Halloween party for most of the game).

We should have brought Rickie in for the 4th quarter. We had the ball, down 10, no one was even left there to boo him. Just tell him, you can't do any worse, so just relax and play.

I watched the Gary Bryant tackle attempt on that 72 yard TD about 5 straight times. It was the best unintentional comedy of the night.

No, I think the issue here are the Fran Brown fanboys who refuse to believe he could “miss” on a recruit. Carney played the equivalent of CNY Class C football. He’s not that good.

When I saw the replay, Fran was ripping him a new one on the sidelines. I don’t think he ever came back in the game. It was a game changing effort. That one missed tackle totally changed the game. Fran can point to that one play to show his team what lack of effort and fundamentals can do in a game.

I doubt anyone playing Class C football in NY would ever see the field anywhere here in Texas. There is no equivalent to Class C CNY football here.

Dallas Christian, Carney’s Alma Mater, has an enrollment of 750. In K-12. That’s an average of 62 students per class. We are talking Texas 2A football. 2A. Not 5A, not 6A. 2A. If Carney was better than Filardi, he’d be playing instead of Filardi. Period.

I’m sure he’s bad, isn’t really question… I guess it’s just hard to believe he could be worse than what we’ve seen. Is it even possible?

Bring the NY State Class C Champion down here and let them play those schools.

I’m pretty sure Luke and his family want him to redshirt which is fine, play him in 4 games and then stop. But last I checked, the redshirt rule allows a kid to throw the ball while still retaining his redshirt, so not sure what is going on. He cannot be that bad as a thrower, at least compared to what we have seen.

I'm no coach, but it doesn't take being one to watch last night's game and come away perplexed. Okay, so Fran wanted to start Filardi. Interesting decision - normally you work your way through your #1 option to #2 and so on. He leap frogged Carney with a walk-on. But again, okay, coach's decision. I liked giving him a full half to show what he could do. However, to then start Filardi for ONE series in the 2nd half before going to Carney was really strange.

He allowed Filardi to play the whole first half and we clearly saw that wasn't going to work. Why the hell not start Carney from the jump in the 2nd half? So, Carney comes out in the 2nd series which was strange to me but then isn't allowed to throw the ball after we watched how inept Filardi was tossing the ball around. I don't get it.

But Carney has played.
And has been listed either 2nd or 3rd on the depth chart all season. I know that the depth chart is not gold but does somewhat suggest what the coaches are thinking. I just guess not Fran. The ultimate fake out that was not.
