John and Fran need to go

If “toosii” is getting any dollar from this school. Fran will need to go because why is a 25 year old multi platinum artist getting money from this school unless it’s 3rd party NIL deals. And he better not be on scholarship. I been on the Fran train the entire year. But if he is giving this kid a scholarship I had enough.

Duke and NC State were also recruiting him.

We probably paid him $$

He probably will never play.

Publicity is publicity, good or bad.

It does if you are responding to this post: "True, but at least we didn't go 4-8 with our first team QB healthy all year and the greatest NFL coach of all time on our sidelines."
I don't know what point you are trying to make, but my post in quotes was referring to UNC, not SU.

I know. But I am not about to feel superior about comparing teams, when the other team had a better record AND beat us head-to-head on our own field. UNC had a bad season, we had a worse one. We had a coach with less Super Bowls, but actual experience coaching the college game in this NIL era.

We lost our starting QB which kinda made a big difference in our season...

Based on expectations we didn't have a worse season.

Did anyone hear bill Simmons on his podcast w cousin sal bash wildhack out of nowhere? Mentioned how he botched the Chesney hire and then Todd mcshay said something along the lines of “more to that story”

Sounds like mcshay and Simmons not fans of wildhack from espn at all. Knew Simmons loathed him but assumed it was all ego

Simmons not liking Wildhack goes way back. This is just the latest. He'll take any opportunity to take a shot at JW.

To be clear in this situation, I don't hate Simmons nor am I a person that wants JW fired, I'm just saying there is a history there and Simmons has been vocal about his dislike of JW's choices in certain things going back to ESPN days.

Simmons is a Holy Cross guy so his support of Chesney isn't surprising.

But until Chesney wins 10 games at UCLA I really don't want to hear it. Chesney wouldn't have won 10 games in his first season at SU.
And he would not have gone 3-9 in his 2nd year with the worst 8 week stretch in the last 50 years of Syracuse football.

It's all speculation which is fine. Chesney has done a solid job as head coach, I wouldn't rule out him being successful anywhere if given solid resources and the financial backing. You just never know, we have our own problems.

Wildhack rolled the dice, looked like a genius the first year, not so much the 2nd year. Chesney was a much safer bet but here we are.

With Chesney we probably would have went 4-8 his first year and 7-5 or 8-4 his second. JW made the biggest risk/reward move. Chesney was the safe pick with likely a somewhat lower ceiling. I don't care about his record at JMU. Cignetti won just as many games there too and had the program humming before Chesney got there.

8-4 with our schedule this year? Don't think that is probable for him or any coach.

UCLA will eventually eat enterprise Bob alive, like it does with everyone else.
Better coach, meh recruiting vs unexperienced coach with recruiting muster?? Who knows. In the end it's probably is a wash record wise.

Probably 7-5. I still think we would have won 7 or 8 had Angeli not been injured and I realize him being out was not the entire reason we suck.

Chesney had to replace over 50 players and 96% of JMU's production. It is ironic that the "lower ceiling" guy has a real shot at the CFP this year and is getting hired at a top tier BiG program.

But it was easy according to many here..

Actually I think what most people have said is that they have had success for several years with a number of different coaches, so they must be doing something right with the overall infrastructure of the program.....

well now Cignetti is in the playoff at Indiana. So is JMU that easy of a job or did they have two great coaches roll through one after another?

People were losing their minds on here about us possibly hiring Chesney, it's revisionist history to call him a "much safer bet" now.

I was very much all in on us bringing him in, I remember the pushback.

Of course when everyone thought is was Mullen and then you go to Chesney that’s a large drop from the known quantity. Once the Mullen smoke cleared I don’t remember a lot of people screaming about Chesney.

I don't know about that. If you have a bunch of guys on the roster who are here for football only tangentially, how does that help you win? Happy to eat my words if he's like some pied piper for talent and not just a distraction.

Didn't Cignetti take a ton of JMU guys to Indiana?

…or they are smart in hiring good coaches.
