In year 5 I envisioned Dino and company would be recruiting at a much higher level. Making 400 offers is translating into shaferesqe recruiting classes that are being bailed out by last minute German commitments and Canadian hidden gems. Not sure what is going on here but it’s not good.

Don’t even get me started on the quarterback and defensive tackle recruiting. We have 20 wide receivers but can’t recruit these positions for squat

Shafer’s classes featured highly ranked guys who didn’t make it to campus.

All Canadians are “hidden gems” because they don’t get covered like US players, especially in recruiting hot beds.

Jury is out on the Germans, not sure why you feel the need to pooh on them.

WR recruiting has been fine. QB recruiting, despite the worrying is basically what it’s been when ED and Nassib were here.

The truth is you have no idea how these kids will pan out. Syracuse will never land classes that many think different head coaches and assistants would. we are on our 4th head coach in 10-12 years and things haven't changed all that much. I don't care who the head coach and staff are. Syracuse is a tough place to land high end talent. We have always been and always will be a developmental program just the way it is. We have not one inherited recruiting advantage or areas that we can rely on as inherited " honey holes"

The fact is there are a ton of schools that can offer the same or more than we do, just accept it.

IMO the best recruiter was GROB who is arguably one of the worst head coaches in the modern college football era. be careful what you wish for

Not poohing on the germans glad we got them. They are possibly bailing out the poor recruiting effort. Do we need to invest in some math classes for the coaching so they can perform some basic roster balance management?

Also, transfers don’t count towards the average - and Canadians are often an unknown and drag our average down. The Germans will do that this cycle.

Recruiting can always be better, and the misses this cycle suck. But I’d be grain of salting some of this stuff.

Do you have some insight into how they are projecting the new guys and the kids we already have on campus?

I’d lean into trusting the staff with the stuff over random internet guy

Let's see what happens on the field.

That is all you can do. 6 months ago we had a lot of talent because we won 10 games the year before. How did we do that? we did it with a very strong senior leadership and kids that were all in the same mold of the kids who have signed today from a profile viewpoint. Just have to hope for 100% buy in and that they get better every year. When we have a strong senior class full of 22 and 23 year old program kids we will be fine when we don't it could be a struggle. Go back and look at the 2012 and 2018 teams, great teams with a ton of overachieving seniors with great leadership who set the culture at least for that year.

Our competive advantage was suppose to be Dino. Loads of charisma? Fast paced offense. If he can’t recruit why then? Game day management doesn’t seem to be a strength. Just calling it as I see it

If you don't think Dino appeals to many of these kids who are out there you are crazy. problem is he's trying to sell a Nissan maxima where others have AUDI's at the same price. That's the whole point. I agree this year sucked on the field but still the same guy that won 10 games last year and the recruiting classes are what they pretty much always will be regardless of who you bring in because of what the overall product they have to sell. Tour other campuses and take a look, develop, develop, develop. That's the job at Syracuse and what it will always take to be successful. There is zero way around it. Zero.

The Germans are rutger-esque scrapping the bottom. I'm glad everyone is so bullish on them.

The good news is we still have 7 spots to fill and a bevy of really good kids available including transfers. While most schools are full. We should see some January action and hopefully good action.

and fyi, rvls has our class ranked #49. Which includes them lowering Kinsler's rating from a 4 star to a 3 star. That's not great but it's not as dire as some make it out to be. And there's still room in the class to go up.

The biggest disappointed (and unfortunately the most important) has to really only be at QB.

Maybe Dino just doesn't have the chops to run a P5 program like a true business. Too loyal to assistants that aren't making the grade? Martin brought us one really good recruit who played 1 friggin year. What has he done since? Same goes for practically half of the position coaches. We have 1 really good assistant in Swag Daddy. 1. Other schools have 10 of them.

We need bad men who can recruit. First and foremost.

Get the talent and then figure out who can develop them.

We all love Dino but he needs to hire and fire the gerrys at will until he has a supporting cast of Monroes that can help sell the program. Wildhack needs to back up the brinks truck and pretty much whore ourselves to get these P5 assistants to come here. I don't care how it gets done at this point. Hoops has broken me.

Rutger-esque lol. Agreed. I’m all about pounding the portal since we have way too many holes to fill

Canadians? German kids? This isn't NCAA basketball. We're making recruiting reaches like a scrappy MAC school.

Who plays qb if Devito goes down?
We have the tight end ready to roll if DeVito goes down. Maybe the walk on? Summers didn’t even dress this year. It’s bleak.

I think it's fair to acknowledge that coming off the ten win season, we expected a little more razzle dazzle from this recruiting class. That said, I'm excited for the guys we do have coming on board. Stumbling out of the gate this season almost certainly cost us, but there were signs even before that with like the CT QB that it was still an uphill climb. I don't really understand it.

There is one question that I would like Dino to answer relative to recruiting. Last year Dino kept saying that the fruits of a 10 win season would be born out with the 2020 recruiting class and not necessarily the 2019 class. So I would like his perspective on the strength of the 2020 class relative to the 2018 10 win season, i.e. Was it what he expected? I understand that the class is not complete and there is another signing day in February so the question may be premature at this time.

why would the 4th string QB dress to play and perhaps he was injured and no one reported it?

Dino , at least is thinking outside the box with Quebec and Germany , and that’s what he must do.

difference being there was no incremental uplift after a 10 win season. Cuse football is a vicious cycle.
