Something is not right

We took a big strikeout today. 3 big ones ,Mesidor, Poiter and Fortin. You want to sugarcoat it but some of us don't. Spin won't help.

I usually think Thecusian has an overly positive outlook when it comes to some of the issues with the program but you can't look at recruiting in a vacuum. The Poiter one really hurts as it appears we were in a great spot for a while but FSU came in late. That crap has been happening going back to the days of Pasqualoni, when a top Florida school wants a kid late its going to be hard for SU to get him, Clark choosing SU over Florida was the exception. I remember a very similar thing happening with a WR years ago, it blows but what can you do. As for the other two SU was never a lock or leader for either. Mesidor has been a WVU lean for a while and most people thought we were out of it so no idea why that is a strikeout. Fortin while committing to USF was a huge shock was never a lock here. I do agree those three were tough to lose but we were really only in a great spot for Poiter and we just grabbed two high end Wr's the past month.

This class will not close the gap we currently have in this conference. In actuality it looks like we will fall farther behind. This is recruiting class #5 and it’s not much better than year one. No QB and no DT. Two areas of massive need. Dino has recruited one decent QB in five years and he hasn’t proven he’s a top ACC quarterback. Disappointing!

I think we could cut and paste the comments on this thread since the P days. We are not going to consistently land 4 stars - we need to coach up what we have, and win the scheme battle. Names and faces and hopes change but the narrative stays the same.

This recruiting class was a disaster IMO we didn’t address our biggest needs, and we lose a WR who was a Syracuse lean to FSU who comes in at the last minute and steals him and all of this on the heals of one giant disappointment of a season.

Shafer’s classes featured highly ranked guys who didn’t make it to campus.

All Canadians are “hidden gems” because they don’t get covered like US players, especially in recruiting hot beds.
Disagree. Not all them are going to turn out. The level of ball here is lower than the states. Canadian commitments when they don’t play in the states are usually hit or miss.

Well first off FSU didn't sweep in at the last second, they have been on him for a long time but placed him on the backburner, its not like they offered two days ago and that was their first contact. I mean your talking about Florida kid attending his dream school, it is what it is. The class overall was certainly not a disaster lets stop the hyperbole. From a QB and DT perspective it was extremely disappointing and overall our QB recruiting has been a disaster but look at some of the guys we were able to bring in from Kinsler to the two WR's, two highly touted RB's, two high end safeties including the kid from Canada who everyone has raved about, the TE Mahar that we all thought was going to Pitt, and multiple OL including a JUCO and another potentially on the way. There is a ton of talent there, we need to hit QB and DT hard between now and February.

Are people aware that it’s December, there is another signing day and a very fluid transfer portal. This is not close to being over. Dino isn’t stupid, he and staff will be turning over every rock and looking to find another QB and depth for the O and D lines. Not going to trash this class. On satellite radio the other day they went through 2019 top 25 recruits. More then half the players hadn’t hit the the field and several were in the portal. As mentioned , once you get past the top 20 it’s a crap shoot. Miami once again has a highly rated class. When was the last time they put a top 15 team on the field, We did it with our 50 something classes one year ago.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree, I find when you don’t address the most important position on the field and get no help at DT that’s makes the class a disaster, and I also think saying a “Ton of Talent” is way overstated.

Like others, I had hoped that Dino would be able to goose our recruiting a bit given his personal charisma, unique offensive system, and increased funding. It doesn't appear much has changed unfortunately.

I do think that athletically SU looks more like a P5 team under Dino than we did under Shafer. But that hasn't translated to much more than a small bump in our recruiting rankings, which are still decidely near the bottom of the ACC.

Glass half-full view is that 2018 proved that with a fortunate schedule, and a few outstanding playmakers, we can have a very good season even when recruiting at this level.

Glass half-empty view is that the "hidden gems" and "they got who they wanted" talk is kind of silly. It's what fans of teams who don't recruit exceedingly well say. And some of the same people who say these things today will bemoan our lack of talent come the fall.

Not addressing a position of clear need is a major issue but it doesn't make the entire class a disaster. By that logic if we got everyone but Fortin today the class would still have been a disaster in your eyes due to the lack of a QB and DT. Looks its clear this class wasn't the breakthrough top 30 class this board had hoped for coming off a 10 win season, Hellen Keller could see that. Still there is a talent in this class and a lot of it. Kinsler and the two WR's offer sheets are insane, those are 4 star guys. I can't say what the two German players will become but the one dude had a PSU offer, they don't just hand those out to be nice. We absolutely need to address QB and DT and probably LB as well and the continued issue with QB recruiting is a MAJOR issue, but lets see where the class ends up in February before burning the place down.

Dino , at least is thinking outside the box with Quebec and Germany , and that’s what he must do.
one thinks outside the box when you cant get anything accomplished within it.

not sure anyone ever said, we will win if we can get more canadians and some germans who have never played football before.

Canadians? German kids? This isn't NCAA basketball. We're making recruiting reaches like a scrappy MAC school.

Who plays qb if Devito goes down?

that’s better - knew you had it in you

Unfortunately, your argument would be better if there weren’t Canadians in the two-deep already who look the part

who plays QB if Eric went down? Walkon
Who plays QB if Nassib went down? Loeb

not a new phenomenon here. Yes we should bring in a transfer and a freshman at the position.

Thanks, I wasn’t aware that none of them had played football before.

We still don’t look P5 IMO. Our DTs and LBs were undersized. Our RBs and WRs look like boys compared to other ACC teams.

I think it's fair to acknowledge that coming off the ten win season, we expected a little more razzle dazzle from this recruiting class. That said, I'm excited for the guys we do have coming on board. Stumbling out of the gate this season almost certainly cost us, but there were signs even before that with like the CT QB that it was still an uphill climb. I don't really understand it.

not good enough at cheatin

lol. Who is sugar coating? I’ve said repeatedly that missing on those guys sucks. I’m just not burning down the house because of it

The German guy was an EMU commit and we flipped him at the 11th hour. I have to imagine if he had a real PSU offer before (my guess is PWO) he would have taken it.

The other German is a volleyball player.

Both players have good size but YIKES.

Some of them did, but Bear, Ruff, Trish, Harris and others looked like P5 guys, though Harris is still skinny as hell. LB is the big issue and DT the following year if we can't make some hay here in the next two months. The RB's all looked OK to me, I mean outside of Jordan everyone looked like a P5 back it just didn't translate on the field for a lot of our losses.

Yep he has too. Also I looked at 247 sports and they have the class rated mid 50's. Again about ever every class has been rated at Syracuse for oh the last 15 years. BFD. There isn't much difference once you get past 30 anyway and guess what doubt Syracuse ever scratches the top 30 anyway but people keep beating the drum year after year. been making the same post for years and still waiting for that top 25 class to pop up. Call me when it does and I will buy all the beer for a few tailgates.

And more kids actually qualify and are on campus with Dino than SS and DM

not to mention highly rated transfers from good programs that don’t get factored in

I believe it was Mang who had the PSU offer not the EMU guy. I am sure the PSU offer was no longer commitable but it was at one point. I am aware the other guy was an EMU commit and was a late flip. He's a JUCO OL that clearly the staff saw something they liked, the fact he was committed to EMU isn't good as say a flip from Va-Tech but EMU is still a D1 program, its not like we flipped him from Grambling or Hobart.

Max, the German guy you consider a volleyball player, is the one with the offer from Penn State football.

We start out next year with Jackson , Jordan, taj, Benson, and Hackett. a flock of other WRs that have great potential not to mention proven RBs in Adams and Howard. I don’t feel that bad. We seemed to have made some improvement on the Oline. We need to find some more pieces in the next few months for depth I have a wait and see approach

Flip side of that, people here were bemoaning that we don't have some Boise State type system (they just get all the CA kids right next door that the PAC doesn't). Our friends from up north fit a similar type of get for us, just not at the volume.

IF those German kids parents immigrated to the states a few years ago everyone would be thrilled.
